Book a time with us here: TwinCitiesRealEstateInvesting.com/schedule Evan Uribe got his start in real estate investing around 2015 with a classic Minneapolis househack — and then just kept going. Over the years, Evan completed four more househacks, making him the unofficial king of househacking on the show. His most recent project was an FHA 203k renovation loan deal, where he learned firsthand just how powerful — and complicated — those programs can be. In this episode, Evan breaks down the lessons, mistakes, and unexpected challenges that came with using the FHA 203k program in a real-world project. A few years ago, Evan also stepped into the affordable housing world professionally, taking a job underwriting deals for a public housing fund. That experience gave him a crash course in affordable housing finance, including grants, tax credits, lending programs, layered financing structures, and the realities of how affordable housing projects actually get built. Evan brings a rare perspective because he’s lived on both sides — as a scrappy small investor building wealth one househack at a time, and as someone analyzing large-scale housing deals professionally. This episode is packed with practical insights for anyone interested in househacking, creative financing, or the affordable housing world. 🚨 If you enjoy the show, please share this episode with a friend, post it on social media, and leave us a review. It helps us grow the Twin Cities real estate investing community and continue bringing on great local guests.

Book a time with us here: TwinCitiesRealEstateInvesting.com/schedule Tyler Joas grew up working on job sites with his dad, a home builder, and always had an interest in construction. After graduating from the University of St. Thomas, he originally planned to go into development—but with COVID hitting during his senior year, the job market dried up fast. Instead, Tyler started a general contracting business from scratch, taking on small jobs with friends and hustling for work through forums and Facebook groups. His first deck project was such a frustrating experience that he told himself he’d never build another one. Fast forward to today, and Tyler is the founder of Northern Craft Building, a company on track to build around 200 decks this year alone. Even though Tyler isn’t a traditional real estate investor, this episode is packed with insight for Twin Cities investors—especially anyone renovating, managing contractors, or trying to scale projects. We get into what actually makes a contractor reliable (and what “cheap” really costs), how specialization leads to better outcomes and tighter execution, and how to think about construction through the lens of systems, margins, and repeatability. Tyler also shares how private equity is changing the trades, what they often get wrong operationally, and how he’s building his company with a clear exit strategy in mind—something every investor can learn from.
