It’s hard to posit a single perspective on a show that has shaped such a variety of the modern audio documentary sound.  Hearing Voices served as a platform and collective for independent audio producers, journalists, authors, poets, and so many more creative voices.  Since 2001, it has published over 350 hours of work including a weekly show that aired on NPR from 2008 to 2012.  Each episode mixes broadcasts, podcasts, sound-portraits, slam poets, docs, radio dramas, features, and found-sound, all bound together by a common theme.  Executive Producer Barrett Golding is an exceptional curator and audio maker, and a firebrand advocate for the radical idea that a healthy public media ecosystem includes independent artists and producers.  And his actions speak, using Hearing Voices to present multimedia works and adventurous audio made by independents.  Works by creative giants like Larry Massett, Dmae Lo Roberts, Joe Richman and Scott Carrier presented alongside the sounds of upcoming a
