There Will Be Duds

A weekly conversation on twitch turned podcast. We review a wide variety of films drawn randomly from a cup -- the twist is that once a month we review a "bad" movie, or, a dud. The podcast is broadcasted on Twitch and YouTube every Wednesday at 7pm EST at twitch.tv/ThereWillBeDuds

    209 - Paranoia Agent

Odds and Ends: How's Myspace doing in 2026? Oh...; we talk about the drama, er, The Drama, with capital letters, because it's a movie title, so it's a proper noun, and those are capitalized. Just a lil bit of knowledge from yours truly.Feature Film: Our feature film this episode is... not a feature film! It's a miniseries by Satoshi Kon, who we've covered multiple times on the show, but still have yet to discuss one of his actual feature films. Anyway, this is a show, not a movie, and it's about a bunch of sad people or whatever and a very happy boy with a bat. I think so, at least, I'm not used to watching TV shows, so I get confused very easily. Why are there credits every 20 or so minutes? Those are just supposed to be at the end!Next episode's movie: Daddy Can't Dance (2012)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 208 - Con Air

Odds and Ends: T.J. went to Florida to see the launch of Artemis II, but mostly just helped rescue marine animalsFeature Film: Maybe THE ultimate dude movie of the 90s, Con Air features a huge lineup of stars, or at least faces you'll probably know from something, even if you can't quite figure out what it is. It's Cage at his Cagiest, because despite the lack of big freakout moments, there's something undeniably Cagey about Cameron Poe.Next episode's movie: Paranoia Agent (2004)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 207 - Return to Oz

Odds and Ends: We watched some new stuff, how about that? Nick talks about the HBO prestige trash show Neighbors, and we both talk about the movie that basically everyone's seen anyway so why even talk about it really, Project Hail MaryFeature Film: We return to Oz! Or actually, we just go there, since we've never covered an Oz movie on the show, but the movie is called Return to Oz, so I thought that that would still work, but now that I typed it out, it doesn't really make any sense at all. Oh well. I tried, and that's the important thing, right?Next episode's movie: Con Air (1997)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 206 - The Underground Comedy Movie

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about the hot new indie game Rollercoaster Tycoon 2; rising from the ashes of another month of duds, we go over the current state of the dud listFeature Film: Choosing pain over pleasure, T.J. picked The Underground Comedy Movie, and what an apt choice it was. Directed by Vince Offer, this is about equally as awful as his other movie InAppropriate Comedy, which means it very well could be the worst movie we've had to endure on this show.Next week's movie: Return to Oz (1985)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 205 - Freddy Got Fingered

Odds and Ends: We attempt to break down the WB/Paramount/Netflix love triangle, which spirals into T.J. advocating ethical body shaming; Nick talks about the new Gore Bervinski (iykyk) movieFeature Film: We discuss the misunderstood (?) classic (?) by Tom Green (???), Freddy Got Fingered, which isn't really about that at all. It's more about... screaming and disappointed fathers. Extremely relatable for two adult males who have a podcast.Next week's movie: The Underground Comedy Movie (1999)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 204 - White Chocolate

Odds and Ends: Nick's very un-romantic romance double feature for Valentine's Dayl; T.J. raves about the movie based on the show about the band named Nirvanna the Band, but I forget what it's called... wocka wocka, ba dum tshhh, thanks folks I'll be here til next Wednesday at 7 pm EST, oh lord, someone stop me! Please.Feature Film: We discuss the misguided (or intentionally poorly guided?) rom-com White Chocolate, featuring world famous host of The Hunk, Anthony Napoli! A movie that may be attempting to be progressive, but comes off as more transgressive than anything else.Next week's movie: Freddy Got Fingered (2001)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 203 - The Bye Bye Man

Odds and Ends: We do a belated overview of our favorite stuff from 2025. Games, shows, movies, music, etc. Actually, no etc., I think it's just those four things; we also both saw the new Sam Raimi movie Send Help, so we... well, we talk about that, too, what do you think?Feature Film: Kicking off another dreaded month of duds for March Badness, Nick brings in the horror anti-classic, The Bye Bye Man! And now that you've heard those words in sequence, I guess you're going to die now. Which is probably what you'll want after watching this movie anyway, so win-win?Next week's movie: White Chocolate (2018)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: We go over the Oscar nominations; the second 28 Years Later movie is out, did you know?Feature Film: We talk about the infamous documentary Dear Zachary, which is very sad and I don't feel like making any jokes in this episode description, so byeeeeeee...Next week's movie: The Bye Bye Man (2017)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 201 - From the Vault Nintendo 64 Retrospective

We're opening the vault again, which we've started using as a means to feature stuff other than what we normally do on the show. This time, we're doing video games! Again. Nintendo video games! Again. It's the Nintendo 64, in all it's janky and dated glory. This is part 1 of an eventual trilogy of episodes on the console, to be completed at some point in the future!Next week's movie: Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 200 - The Evil Dead Trilogy

Happy 200th to us! To celebrate, we invited some friends to a cabin in the woods to talk about some movies, most of which take place at a cabin in the woods. We didn't necessarily plan on doing two Sam Raimi trilogies in a row for our milestone eps, but what can I say? The guy makes good movies. We also screen our own Evil Dead-inspired movie, The Ungrateful Dead and do a sort of live VJ style commentary. If you're listening to this as podcast, this one might be better to watch the video with, but here's the link to The Ungrateful Dead on Youtube if you want to check it out on your own: https://youtu.be/tP1h3qdTDQ4?si=lXb1iSZEbntL6tWLNext movie: Took a break after this whopper of an ep and decided to pull from the Duds vault for the next episode, where we're talking about the Nintendo 64!You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 199 - SLC Punk!

Odds and Ends: We talk about Rob Reiner and other filmmakers we lost recently; T.J. saw a new Wes Anderson movie, and he liked it?! Okay, calm down, it's not that excitingFeature Film: Proving Tarantino wrong, we talk about the great Matthew Lillard and SLC Punk!, a cult indie about some culty indies, or something. That kind of works. T.J. also watched the sequel and is here to tell you to not make the same mistake he did.Next week's movie: The Evil Dead trilogy, plus our own movie The Ungrateful Dead, for our 200th episode extravaganza! You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 198 - Black Christmas and Black Christmas

Odds and Ends: We celebrate our very small listening audience while going over our Spotify wrapped for the show. If you're reading this, dear audience, we luv u.Feature Film: To close out another year, we take all the good will from the original Black Christmas and throw it in the garbage as we cover the two remakes. Both bad for very different reasons, but which is worse? Is one dudlier than the other? Well, just check out the episode, stop asking me.Next week's movie: SLC Punk! You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: Christmas wishes and new year's resolutions; Nick talks about the newest Lanthimos picture, Bugonia; we talk about some unsung Brian Yuzna classics, shoutout the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and try to understand Ben Shapiro's high-IQ review of One Battle After AnotherFeature Film: From the director of A Christmas Story and Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, Black Christmas! One of the earliest examples of what would become the slasher genre, we fawn over the brilliance of this movie, and how it works as a cozy winter Christmas movie at the same time as being a terrifying horror movie.Next week's movie: Black Christmas (2006) and Black Christmas (2019)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: The new Coke ad has us down yet another AI rabbit hole, but T.J.'s cat just wants to play catch with dad; we discuss the new Frankenstein adaptation by Guillermo del Toro, and ask why there aren't any hot lady monsters.Feature Film: For a cheeky lil Thanksgiving movie, we talk about Dances with Wolves, the best picture-winning movie that revitalized the western genre. It's quite a beefy movie, with quite a beefy conversation by a couple of beefy guys.Next week's movie: Black Christmas (1974)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Gunn: Dawn of Incels.Feature Film: We check back in with Stanley and talk about his romantic comedy, Dr. Strangelove. It's about a lot of idiots, discussed by some idiots. 194 - Mazes and Monsters

Odds and Ends: Avoiding the horror of social interaction at high school reunionsFeature Film: We're closing out our month of horror with the odd anti-Dungeons and Dragons movie, Mazes and Monsters (get it?). Probably most notable for being featuring the first starring role of one Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, this movie takes a tragic real-life story that had nothing to do with DnD and makes it all about DnD to demonize a friendly game and minimize teenage depression. So it should be a fun time!Next week's movie: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: Nothing to see here, folks, move along...Feature Film: We're talking about a classic from one of the masters of horror, that being Scream and them being Wes Craven. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity for me to be super meta in the description here and maybe break the fourth wall and talk to you directly. That's something I never do. 192 - Clown in a Cornfield

Odds and Ends: The whole gang is here this time, and we're fighting off the horrors of being old by talking about old Facebook trends and how boomers have infected social media.Feature Film: Peyton's pick for the month is the recent Clown in a Cornfield, an incredibly by the books slasher, until it isn't. We relate to the small townness of the movie, as well as the terrible law enforcement. Btw, with this being such a recent movie, or for some reason anyway, I wasn't able to use any clips for this movie, so this a shameful clipless episode! Good thing we release these right away so that's still relevant when this comes out!Feature Film: Our regular horrorspondent Chris brings in The Fourth Kind, a pseudomockumentary about aliens and the people that wojak for them. 190 - Creepshow

Odds and Ends: It is TOTALLY spooky season for us, just as it is for you, dear listener. If you believe it in your heart, seasons can be year round!Feature Film: Nick picked our first horror month movie this year, Creepshow! A collaboration between horror icons George Romero and Stephen King and inspired by their shared love of old horror comics, Creepshow is a kind of perfect movie to start the Halloween season with. It's got plenty of ghouls, geeks, and a very toothy gorilla dog ding... that ate one kid already. I was going somewhere else with that description, but then I thought of The Sandlot, and that took over. I could delete that and all of this, but uhh, this is how this is going now.Next week's movie: The Fourth Kind (2009)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: Giving dumb stupid old ads the what fer; we talk about Zach Cregger's newest horror slash comedy slash drama, Weapons.Feature Film: Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut, the very Charlie Kaufmany Synecdoche, New York. I had the thought to write some sort of heady, meta thing here as a sort of comedic parallel to the movie, but I don't feel like it. I've had some long days at work and I should be in bed now, but I'm doing this instead. Odds and Ends: T.J. brings up a lawsuit against the new movie Together that he may have some personal ties to... well, almost, he could have maybe sort of had some ties, but he doesn't, but that'd be cool or interesting if he did; inspired by the recent and decent superhero movies, T.J. checked out Thunderbolts (with an asterisk because ooooo!), and thinks it's also decent, but a little less recent.Feature Film: The legendary (to us) Godfrey Ho makes his official Duds debut with his most popular work, Undefeatable! Known as the master of z-grade cinema, Ho brings his regular directing chops of, I dunno, putting people in front of a camera and having them say stuff. He can do that, at least. Speaking of original movies...Feature Film: La Haine? Is that French for Heat? This is an adaptation of Heat? It's not? Wait, so what is it, who are these characters I have to already know from previous stuff? Three people, one of them is kind of short, another has a blaster, is this Star Wars? Odds and Ends: Josh is back again, and we discuss how our feature film this week led to us crossing paths. We watched one of those dumb Netflix docks, the one about the poop cruise called Poop Cruise, and we have some things to say.Feature Film: The classic template detective movie is on the stand this week, though it's more of a template tailing perps and also a car chase movie. I don't have much to say about this one, honestly. Odds and Ends: This is sort of our anniversary episode! Meaning, it's near our anniversary and we did a trilogy, so you know, sort of. T.J. reworks song lyrics from his youth.Feature Film: We're talking about the recently trilogized 28 Blanks Later series, Weeks and all. Sorry, warts and all. Same thing. Odds and Ends: We had a little bit of time left in this one, so T.J. and Ida talk about the newest Final Destination movie.Feature Film: Meri Kurisumasu! Ida and Peyton wouldn't leave the voice call until we talked about the second Battle Royale movie, so here we are. A sequel that is impressive only in how it manages to take the worst qualities from the first movie and leave out all the rest. It's insane how they could fuck up this badly. I was going to go in on some of the issues, but there's just too many, just listen to the episode. But it's got Riki Takeuchi in a cute rugby outfit, so it can't be that bad? Oh wait, it still is that bad? It's gotta be REALLY bad then, because look at that lil guy!Next movie: 28 Days Later Trilogy (2002-2025)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 182 - Battle Royale

Feature Film: Some of T.J.'s friends from a nerd ass weeb Battle Royale roleplay fan group he used to be in (real life - NOT CLICKBAIT) join the show to talk about the cult classic film itself. We get into the weeds on a lot of shit most people won't even have context for here. Even Nick! He said he had a good time though, so don't judge the rest of us on how bored he looks for 90% of our discussion. He told me himself, he said "yeah, that was fun." How could you not be enraptured hearing us talk about the intricacies of fictional characters' crushes on each other from a Japanese novel from 30 years ago? I swear, he said it was fine.Next week's movie: Battle Royale 2: Requiem (2003)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 181 - An Autumn Afternoon

Odds and Ends: T.J. wants to play another game, a game about games (and movies); we both did our homework, so we're able to talk about both Common Side Effects and Sinners!Feature Film: We talk about the final film by director Yasujiro Ozu, An Autumn Afternoon. We struggle through our issues with differing cultural norms and the overall okayness of it as we try to figure out what exactly makes it such a beloved classic.Next week's movie: Battle Royale (2000)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 180 - True Stories

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about an AI slop advertising campaign he's been subjected to; we almost talk about Sinners and we almost talk about Common Side Effects, but instead we just talk about the newest season of Black Mirror.Feature Film: We check in with David Byrne and Talking Heads again with their narrative feature, True Stories (some of which is based on true stories!). It's a chill hang and pseudo-musical type of thing.Next week's movie: An Autumn Afternoon (1962)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 179 - Twisted Pair

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about [REDACTED], which has been his Roman empire as of late; we coincidentally have both been watching some spy movies, probably inspired by this week's feature film. Yeah, definitely.Feature Film: We cap off another dud month with a dip back into the Breeniverse! Just as mind-boggling as the previous Breen screener we covered, both intentionally and unintentionally. This is a good way to wrap up the month of bad, but good lord are we thankful to be moving on from this garbage.Next week's movie: True Stories (1986)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about his A Minecraft Movie experiences, and a potentially very... unfortunate cleanup job he had to do; we go over the most recent season of The White LotusFeature Film: We make an attempt to parse the (literally) unintelligible Axe 'Em, which despite only being able to understand like 5% of what was going on, we manage to wring out the most thorough discussion of a featured film this Dud month. I think we're just glad to not have to talk about another comedy slopfest again.Next week's movie: Twisted Pair (2018)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 177 - Going Overboard

Odds and Ends: In lieu of watching other movies, T.J. yells at clouds; since we're true gamerz, we talk about the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, even though we mostly talk about the Gamecube gamesFeature Film: We continue our dud month (which is also an accidental SNL month) with Adam Sandler's first movie, Going Overboard, even if he doesn't really want people talking about it. And for good reason, because it sucks ass. I don't have anything else to add. This is a bad movie. There, does that count? Odds and Ends: We had a hard time coming up with an opening convo, so T.J. resorts to a classic starter; we both watched Mickey 17, the newest from director Bong; T.J. also watched Adolescence, like everyone else by this point.Feature Film: An insufferable comedy anthology movie with a very similar frame narrative to a different insufferable comedy anthology movie we covered on this show. We talk as much about the movie itself as we do more important questions. 175 - Norbit

Odds and Ends: We talk about Harmony Korine's new experiment in griefing via film; T.J. saw the newest Paddington movie, and a new adaptation (sort of) of Breaking BadFeature Film: We kick off another Dud month with the infamous Norbit, featuring some of the most irritating characters ever put to the screen. Even though T.J. has some weird affinity for the detestable Rasputia, queen of whores. We veer off topic for a while here and discuss just how not very good SNL is.Next week's movie: Movie 43 (2013)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: Our Oscars recap; we saw a gimmick movie; Nick questions T.J.'s Letterboxd top 4Feature Film: We talk about our sorta St. Patrick's Day movie, Waking Ned Devine, another movie that feels like a fantasy world that in actuality is just a quaint UK town. It's a nice enough movie and all, but T.J. just wants to talk about the political and economic state of the world right now.Next week's movie: Norbit (2007)You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! Odds and Ends: A documentary about Prince gets shut down for trying to be interesting; Nick watched the new movie Companion, and T.J. watched the slightly-less new show Scavengers ReignFeature Film: We check out another movie by Marty and local guy Paul, about the guy from Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. 172 - The Cat in the Hat

Odds and Ends: There's a LOT of Oscar drama happening, and probably even more since we recorded this; T.J. saw the epicly badass and so cool Flight Risk, while Nick finally checked out Hundreds of BeaversFeature Film: We watch another movie from the time where they thought it was a good idea to make children's movies as ugly as possible. The Cat isn't even the worst part, have you seen the Things? Have you seen Spencer Breslin? This movie is so not good that we have a Smash Mouth tangent for a little bit. Odds and Ends: We are super jazzed about the present day, yessiree; We recap some of our 2024 first watches highs and lows Feature Film: Tarsem Singh's epic The Fall, shot over 4 years in 28 different countries, is one of those "you gotta see it to believe it" type movies. So hopefully you watched it, because this is a podcast! Wocka wocka! Unless you're watching the video version, then ignore this. Maybe close your eyes for this episode, please. 170 - Withnail and I

Odds and Ends: We share our thoughts on the Golden Globes and what they mean for the rest of awards season, as well as touch on a particular fun... thing about the director of one of the big winners. We also both saw the new Nosferatu, so we talk about that. That's kind of the thing with this show, if you didn't know by now. Feature Film: The UK cult classic Withnail and I, an earlier slacker comedy style movie. Features lots of gross-adjacent stuff and miserable-adjacent locales, yet somehow still looks pretty dang cozy. Next week's movie: The Fall (2006) You can join the conversation Wednesdays at 7pm EST! 169 - American Gigolo

Odds and Ends: T.J. presents a pretty grim conspiracy theory; we finally watch some Christmas (adjacent) movies, just in time for, well, January Feature Film: We check in with Paul Schrader again to see how he's doing. He's doing fine, thanks. He just always makes movies about these lonely and despondent guys, so I'm a little concerned. He says he's okay, but I don't know him that well so he could just be faking. 168 - Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa

Odds and Ends: Why not honor the end of the year by having another discussion about AI and physical media preservation? We also talk about Hot Frosty, and other not-actually-that-bad Hallmark-esque Christmas movies. There's not a lot. Feature Film: We try to discern the baffling Christmas TV special that is clearly vying for holiday classic status, but uhh... isn't that. Headed by an all-star voice cast and one of the ugliest animation styles you will ever see, this is at least not one you'll forget for a while, just maybe not in the way they intended. 168 - The Happiness of the Katakuris

Odds and Ends: January might not be a dump month next year? Nick read a new book by one of his favorite authors and has something to say about it; We watched a bunch of new movies! Look at us! Feature Film: We return to India (or more specifically, Japan) yet again to watch another Takashi Miike movie. This time, the very unique Happiness of the Katakuris, a musical of the strangest sort, with zombies and claymation galore. 166 - When Harry Met Sally...

Odds and Ends: We try to prepare for a very special music festival coming to our hometown; Nick finally played Metroid Dread, which means T.J. can blather on about inane bullshit for 30 minutes. So what's new? Feature Film: The rom-com classic (and potential Fall vibes classic?) When Harry Met Sally (with three dots at the end), a charming lil thing about some charming lil people. 165 - The Game

Odds and Ends: While this episode is after Halloween, us recording it weren't, so we're still talking about horror movies. Namely the very recent Trap, the opposite of very recent Nostferatu, and T.J. talks about some of the VHS movies. Feature Film: We talk about a forgotten Fincher, The Game. Well, I wouldn't say it's "forgotten," really, but compared to the rest of his movies, it's the forgotten one, don't you think? Like, Alien 3 is a more well-known movie because of it being attached to that franchise, but do a lot of people know he directed it? Does that make that one a forgotten Fincher? I feel like no one is talking about The Killer, and that just came out, so there's another one. Maybe Panic Room? That one was pretty big when it came out, but you don't hear it brought up as much nowadays. Anyway, we watched this movie. 164 - Sleepaway Camp & Return to Sleepaway Camp

Odds and Ends: The Uzumaki show is all wrapped up, as is another spooky season. Also, T.J.'s computer took a dump so there's no video for almost all of this (except movie clips). Feature Film: Nick recommended a double dud to close out our horror month, the first and last movies in the Sleepaway Camp series! Both classics in... a certain way, one of which we deliberate over its dud status. If you like the shortest shorts and a bunch of child death like we do, these are the movies for you. 163 - World Apartment Horror

Odds and Ends: We talk about the big sack boys, I mean the Detroit Lions, and how they've got such great sacks; Nick watched and older spooky flick, and T.J. watched a bunch of new ones Feature Film: Once again we chat about a Japanese horror, though the horror in this one is almost just in name only. From a trio of anime legends, we get... a live-action movie! That is impossible to find a decent version of! Maybe anywhere! It seems pretty unknown! But it's neat! 162 - Cure

Odds and Ends: It's been a couple weeks, so it's time for another conversation about AI, but we also talk about the dead internet theory (and dead Steak and Shakes); Nick revisits a favorite from his youth; T.J. is otaku'd-up and talks about two more Japanese movies Feature Film: Nick's horror recommendation is Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure,a sort of horror, sort of detective movie about, well, killings and stuff, but also... there's a lot of this that went over our heads. But we think we got it. So like, it starts and this guy beats someone to death with a pipe, and our theory is that that is murder. There's more to the movie, but that's the gist of it. 161 - Kwaidan

Odds and Ends: Nick unknowingly invokes a curse that we try to use for good, but might backfire accidentally; Even though we're still putting off our Uzumaki talk, we still do a little Junji Ito dive; Nick watched a Tim Burton movie that's not Beetlejuice, and T.J. thinks you should give the alternate version of Alien 3 a try (no, really) Feature Film: A Japanese horror classic about weird people with blackened teeth and fattened gullets from the food they take from the poor, and also some ghosts. Kwaidan is a horror anthology about ghosts, and the guys who love them. Or who left them for someone else. Or who play music for them. Or who... drink them?
