Third Eye on the Prize
by Debra Sansone
Third Eye on the Prize is a poetic, grounded podcast for people willing to stay present when life's waters get choppy.Hosted by writer and artist Debra Sansone, the show explores presence not as a concept, but as a lived practice under pressure: in moments of unexpected change, parenting, relationship, grief, intuition...even collapse. These episodes don't aim to soothe or bypass discomfort, but to stay with it long enough for something honest to emerge.Drawing on storytelling, spiritual inquiry, and embodied attention, Third Eye on the Prize questions easy narratives and spiritual shortcuts, inviting listeners into deeper contact with themselves and the world as it is - messy, intelligent, and alive.Taking a look at the turbulence happening in the world right now through the lens of presence. As always: keep your third eye on the prize, and remember, truth is beyond belief

Plastic is Oil in Disguise
Send us Fan MailPlastic is everywhere—but how often do we stop to ask where it really comes from?In this episode of Third Eye on the Prize, we explore the hidden connections among oil, plastic, consumer culture, and the climate crisis. As renewable energy slowly challenges fossil fuels, another industry is booming: plastic production. What does that mean for our planet, our oceans, and future generations?Drawing from Beth Gardiner’s new book Plastic Inc., this episode looks at the deeper forces of greed, convenience, denial, and unconsciousness that shape the modern world. We also ask the spiritual question: how do we respond without falling into despair—or denial?Walk the middle path.Keep your third eye on the prize.Book Mentioned: Plastic Inc. by Beth Gardiner🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

4 Doorways: Beauty
Send us Fan MailBeauty is one of the most powerful—and overlooked—doorways to presence. In this episode, we explore how great works of art can pull us out of the small self into something much larger. When we truly immerse ourselves in music, painting, or performance, the ego softens and we become receptive to the source of creativity.I share a curated playlist from my YouTube channel, Third Eye on the Prize, called Embodied Artistry—featuring extraordinary performances from artists like the Beatles, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea & Gary Burton, John Batiste, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby, Eric Clapton, Wynton Marsalis, Oscar Peterson, and Sarah Vaughan.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjGo6MEjTb6B02rteolUlioDv4PscztUp These aren’t just great performances—they’re living examples of what it means to be fully embodied in the creative act.We also explore:How beauty can dissolve the egoThe idea of artists as channels The connection between art, science, and truthHow openness and humility allow us to access deeper presenceWhen we meet great art with receptivity, something shifts. We’re no longer observing—we’re participating. And in that space, presence reveals itself.🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

4 Doorways: Embodiment
Send us Fan MailIn this second episode of the 4 Doorways to Presence series, we explore embodiment — the simple but profound act of coming back into the body. Many of us live mostly in our heads: thinking, planning, worrying, solving problems. Meanwhile, the body quietly holds a powerful key to presence.Dancers, actors, athletes, and even people facing illness often discover something the rest of us overlook: when awareness moves into the body, something shifts. Tension can soften. Energy can flow. The mind and body begin to work together instead of against each other.Through meditation, breath awareness, and simple observation, the body becomes more than a physical container — it becomes a doorway.A doorway to presence.🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

4 Doorways: Intuition
Send us Fan MailDoorways to presence are always available to us.In this new series, I explore four of them: Intuition, Embodiment, Beauty, and Pain.Today’s episode focuses on Intuition—what it actually is (and what it isn’t).Intuition is not emotion. It’s not opinion. It’s not wishful thinking or ego in disguise. It’s the human capacity to receive subtle but unmistakable guidance from beyond the small self.In this episode, I share:How intuitive messages arriveWhy they only give us “50%”The difference between certainty and completenessWhy faith is required to actAnd what happens when we ignore that inner knowingFeaturing wisdom from Rabindranath Tagore, we explore the courage it takes to trust the light before it fully appears. If you’ve ever felt a quiet nudge and wondered whether to follow it—this episode is for you.Keep your third eye on the prize. Truth Has its Own Timetable
Send us Fan MailHow do we stay conscious, compassionate, and psychologically steady when confronted with large, unsettling public stories?...really sitting with the unknown is so uncomfortable. In this episode, I reflect on the tension many of us feel between staying informed and becoming overwhelmed — between engagement and mental saturation. Using the ongoing conversation around the Epstein files as a starting point, I explore why uncertainty is so destabilizing, why speculation is so seductive, and why truth, historically, rarely emerges quickly or cleanly.I also share thoughts on the role of courageous journalism, the patience required for real understanding, and the importance of protecting our own nervous systems in an age of nonstop information.Referenced in this episode:Ezra Klein’s conversation with Anand Giridharadas, What the Epstein Files Reveal About How Elite Worlds Work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBnQ6qxoMr8🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Send us Fan MailHow Presence Defuses Emotional Bombs...You can't let go of something that you're not letting be. If you've ever struggled to "just let go," this one is for you.One ordinary morning, a knock at the door and a sudden scream changed everything. In this episode, I share a moment with my daughter that revealed something subtle and powerful about emotional escalation - and why "just letting go" so often doesn't work. This is a reflection on presence, energy, and what becomes possible when we stop resisting what's here long enough to let it be.🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Challenge: a Friend in Disguise
Send us Fan MailIn this episode: Karma as cause and effect, not judgment or blameWhat if the difficulties we resist most are actually doing important work on us?In this opening episode of Season Two, Debra explores challenge as a teacher—not as punishment, not as something we “deserve,” but as part of a larger unfolding that often only makes sense when we zoom out in time.Drawing on ideas of karma, ancestral patterns, humility, and lifelong learning, this spoken-prose reflection looks at how distressing events—personal and collective—can be understood through a wider lens of cause and effect. This episode invites listeners to soften resistance, observe their reactions, and meet life’s challenges with curiosity rather than anger or despair.Referenced: In the Absence of the Ordinary: Soul Work for Times of Uncertainty, Francis Weller🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Treasure in the Voice: What Can't Be Destroyed
Send us Fan MailMemory, Impermanence, and What Can’t Be PreservedThis episode begins with a piece I wrote years ago about rediscovered family audiotapes recorded between 1958 and 1969—then pivots into a reflection on nostalgia, impermanence, and listening.Hearing those recordings again felt like stepping into a time machine guided only by the sound of voices. But this episode also reckons with absence. The recordings themselves have since gone missing, underscoring a deeper truth: our essence isn’t something physical that can be preserved. It’s electric, ethereal, fleeting—and timeless. This is a reflection on memory, grief, intimacy, and the nourishment we receive by hearing one another, especially in an age shaped so profoundly by technology and AI.An invitation to listen more closely—to voices, to silence, and to the mystery at the heart of being human. This episode is best listened to from beginning to end, without skipping.🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Don't Leave, Mozart of Math: Loss of Brilliance in America
Send us Fan MailWhy America’s Brightest May Have to LeaveThis episode is about the erosion of America’s ability to support innovation.“The rest of the world is not patiently waiting for America to get its act together.”What happens when scientists, researchers, and innovators who once saw the United States as a beacon of possibility start packing their bags?In this episode, I address the growing exodus of brilliant minds — and the not-so-quiet undermining of discovery, creativity, and progress. From funding cuts to visa restrictions to outright hostility, the message being sent is unmistakable: you’re not welcome here anymore. But talent goes where it can breathe. And when people who cure diseases, explore the cosmos, and build new technologies begin to leave, the loss is not abstract — it’s deeply human and profoundly dangerous to each and every one of us.If you’ve been feeling the tension between America's promise and what it’s becoming, this episode offers clarity, context, and a reminder that the flame hasn’t gone out yet — but right now it’s dimming. To book a Return to Presence session with Debra: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/return-to-presence PBS News story on Terrence Tao: https://www.pbs.org/video/brain-drain-1761775707/#NewPodcastEpisode #PodcastRecommendations #Immigration #STEM #SciencePolicy #BrainDrain #HigherEd #Research #Innovation #Society #FutureOfScience #ThirdEyeOnThePrize #CreativeMinds🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

AI and Us: Strange Bedfellows
Send us Fan MailHow do you feel about AI right now? Love it or hate it?In this episode, I explore our oddly intimate relationship with technology—how AI can feel like both a brilliant helper and a tone-deaf impersonator. From misleading “solutions” to uncanny insights, from our students’ dependence on Google to the dizzying speed of innovation, we’re being asked to stay more grounded and awake than ever. What does it mean to keep our humanity intact as the collective mind accelerates? And how do we remember the vastness within us when the world is overflowing with digital excess?“Living in a body and knowing we’re going to die is a counterweight to the mind’s power to fly off and go wherever it wants.”Take a breath, tune in, and keep your third eye on the prize."True innovation and creativity happen when humans channel the unlimited source of divine greatness."🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Feeling, Not Feeding, Emotion
Send us Fan MailThere’s a lot of turbulent energy in the world right now — and most of us feel it, whether we want to or not. But how do we stay open without getting overwhelmed? In this episode of Third Eye on the Prize, Debra explores what she calls “the intelligence of the membrane” — the innate ability to know what to let in and what to release. Through personal story, spiritual insight, and deep honesty, she invites us to practice the art of feeling emotions fully without feeding their destructive energy.Drawing on wisdom from Eckhart Tolle and Pema Chödrön — and a powerful story about inherited anger and compassion — Debra reveals how awareness can interrupt generational patterns and transform pain into presence. This is spiritual warrior work: learning to feel without fueling, staying open yet protected, and trusting that with each act of awareness, the poison dilutes and the light grows stronger."If I feel more and feed less, even a tiny bit, I'm going in the right direction."🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Two Rivers: Music as Great Unifier
Send us Fan MailDebra shares the story of her parents' artistry and activism, and how those two rivers shaped her own path as both an artist and teacher.I grew up between two powerful rivers - my mother's artistry and my father's teaching. Both shaped me, both challenged me, and both live on in my own path as an artist and educator. In this deeply personal episode, I share how conflict and struggle can be catalysts for change.I explore my roots and the two powerful influences that shaped me: - My mother, a gifted jazz singer who recorded an album at Columbia Records in 1967, produced by the legendary John Hammond and featuring a young George Benson. - My father, a passionate teacher and political activist who marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. and inspired generations of students.Growing up, I felt like I was marooned between their two rivers - creativity on one side, knowledge on the other. Their lives were fascinating, but also turbulent, marked by trauma, conflict, and moments of chaos (like the time my father burned all the school papers my mother had carefully archived).Yet through it all, one current never stopped flowing: music. It filled the air in our house, lived beneath the tension, and became part of my blood. In this episode, I share how those two rivers - artistry and teaching - eventually converged in me, shaping my path as a poet, educator, and artist.Resources & Links:- Explore my poetry, artwork, and tutoring services: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com- Contact me, Debra Sansone: [email protected] Listen to my mother's album: Extraordinary by Roberta PeckApple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/extraordinary/1292902398Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2NWr182Ma2dVB8IRiPcenz🌿 Stay Connected💌 Share your reflections: [email protected]🌐 Explore more at: https://www.thirdeyeontheprize.com/joinme 🎧 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/third-eye-on-the-prize/id1839927637🎧 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sE2FureJVUfsYuchJ3zgg🎥 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thirdeyeontheprize 💌 If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend, leave a review, or send me a note—I’d love to hear how these conversations land in your life.

Season One Trailer
Send us Fan Mail- Welcome to Third Eye on the Prize A poetic space for consciousness seekers.Increasing numbers of us are having awakening experiences, getting glimpses into the truth that spiritual masters have been telling us about for centuries: that we’re not really separate from one another or the rest of Creation; the separateness is an illusion. This is not easy to digest but it’s a central paradox of life: we have one reality in this body that exists in time and is dissolving and another one beyond it, beyond body, personality, and personal story. How do we navigate this duality in a practical way? By walking what’s called the Middle Path or the Middle Way, a central idea in the Buddhist tradition. But we don’t have to be Buddhists to apply this wisdom in daily life. We do, however, have to practice, as best we can, being present, not getting lost in memories from the past or thoughts about the future, not getting stuck grasping at things or pushing them away. ABOUT THIS SHOW
Third Eye on the Prize is a poetic, grounded podcast for people willing to stay present when life's waters get choppy.Hosted by writer and artist Debra Sansone, the show explores presence not as a concept, but as a lived practice under pressure: in moments of unexpected change, parenting, relationship, grief, intuition...even collapse.
