This Does Not Exist Podcast With Lucy

A podcast about people and experiences that DO exist, yet often go under the radar. Host, Lucy McIvor, lives in a small town and has a lot of secrets. She shares a few of these in Episode One. Then, in subsequent eps, four of her friends and neighbours do the same. This series illuminates the bigness of smalltown life. Bursting with creativity, resilience and innovation, the private and professional lives of Lucy and her guests have already captivated listeners in Lucy's local community in Far North Queensland. A note from Lucy: Some listeners have found the musical intro a little too intrusive. I'd love to be able to do something about this, but I can't at the moment. It goes for one minute, and the best I can suggest is to skip past it if you have to. Background silence will then carry you all the way through the next 50 minutes until you encounter the outro at the end. Thank you for bearing with me in my first ever podcast, and I wish you peace a

    Episode 5 - Sara Isherwood

Theatre, art, food, books, gardening, writing and ancestors are just a few of the topics in this conversation! Sara, who interviewed Lucy in Episode One, opens up about her own enthralling life - and at the end of the recording, allows us to witness as she plans an imaginary banquet for her Chinese and European ancestors - a fitting finale for Season One. This chat celebrates the joy of learning - and the wonder of putting that learning into practice.

    Episode 4 - Rose Watts

Rose Watts is a fascinating artist whose life has been filled with colour, and whose work derives from her relationship with trees and the natural world. In this episode, she tells Lucy all about her art journey: from earliest childhood to studying in NYC, to how she creates her current work. There are plenty of laughs and pauses for wonderment in this conversation, which includes discussion on Rose's work as a nurse, and her abiding interest in interspecies communication. A truly uplifting episode!

    Episode 3 - Carey Shaw

Sexual assault is the issue that is dealt with on this episode - and the rapport between host and guest creates a gentle atmosphere around the topic. With dignity and heart, Carey Shaw, senior practitioner of Tablelands Sexual Assault Service, talks about the role of her organization. The emphasis is on healing, art, and the ethic of love - and there are plenty of tips here on supporting victim-survivors. Carey discusses her work as a woman-crafter and her approach to therapeutic practice, explaining to Lucy the fascinating process of intersubjective responding, and how this relates to the creation of her ceramics.

    Episode 2 - Peter Whalley-Thompson

Prostate-cancer survivor Peter Whalley-Thompson is a natural-born-storyteller. With warmth, humour and candour, he shares the highs and lows of his personal and familial prostate-cancer story – and takes us on some marvellous detours along the way, (including into the worlds of politics and pocket film-making)! This is a great episode for anyone who might be a little bit shy to talk to their loved one about prostate-cancer, as it's bursting with info, kindness, and practical know-how.

Episode 1 - Lucy McIvor Introduction

If you've never heard of OCD by Proxy, you're not alone. After answering a handful of basic questions, such as what is your favourite food (????), Lucy takes us on a deep spiral back into her early years living in a form of physical and psychological captivity with her mother. She is supported in this discussion by art therapist and writer, Sara Isherwood. This is a big, thoughtful discussion that is also full of quirkiness and whimsy:)
