吐く息引く息一つの加減で内々治まる 東京都在住　　松村　登美和 先だって、仕事先の人間関係で悩む人から着信がありました。「一生懸命働いているのに、上司や同僚が認めてくれない」といった話でした。役目柄、そのような相談事によく出会います。 ２、３０分話を聞いて電話を切った後で、妻が「いつもご苦労様」と言ってくれました。そして続いて、「私の話も聞いてくれたら嬉しいなあ～」と、少し冗談交じりの一言を付け加えました。 その言葉を聞いて、私は背筋がピンと伸びる思いで、忘れかけていた昔の出来事を思い出しました。 それは妻が20代で、私が30代の頃の経験です。私たち夫婦には現在３人の子供がおり、また妻は流産を２回経験しています。そのうち初めの数回、妻は産後に40度近い高熱が数日間続いたことがありました。病院で診察してもらっても原因がわからず、ただ熱が下がるのを待つばかりでした。 私たち夫婦は、普段は東京に住みながら、月に数回奈良県天理市へと足を運び、神様の御用を勤めています。今の時代では「マタニティハラスメント」とお叱りを受けてしまうかもしれませんが、その当時、私は出産前後も家を留守にすることが多く、妻が東京に残ることが重なりました。 何度目かの出産の後、私が天理にいるときに、妻が再び高熱を出しました。その報せを聞いて、私は一緒に御用を勤めていた先輩に「妻に、そうした発熱が度々起こるんです。それも私が東京を留守にしている時が多いんです」と話をしました。するとその先輩が、アドバイスを下さいました。 「奥さんに電話してる？ 天理で御用ができるのは、留守を預かる奥さんのお蔭だよ。すぐに帰れなくても、毎日一回はお礼の電話ぐらいしなくちゃ。俺はいつもしているよ」。 なるほど、それはそうだなと思い、それ以後、私も妻に一日一回は電話をかけて、感謝の言葉を伝えるようにしました。すると妻は、電話越しにも分かるほど喜んでくれて、熱はピタリと下がり、それからはひどい高熱が出ることはなくなりました。 天理教教祖・中山みき様が、ある男性にお諭しになったお言葉が残されています。 「内で良くて外で悪い人もあり、内で悪く外で良い人もあるが、腹を立てる、気儘癇癪は悪い。言葉一つが肝心。吐く息引く息一つの加減で内々治まる」 私たちは中山みき様のことを、親しみを込めて「おやさま」とお呼びしていますが、教祖は続けてその男性に、「あんたは、外ではなかなかやさしい人付き合いの良い人であるが、我が家にかえって、女房の顔を見てガミガミ腹を立てて叱ることは、これは一番いかんことやで。それだけは、今後決してせんように」と仰せられました。 私は元来、腹立ちの性分を持っていることを自覚しています。同時に、教祖が仰るように、外では人付き合いが良いのですが、家に帰ると安心感からなのか、ぶっきらぼうになったり、ガミガミ腹を立てたり、めんどくさそうに家族と接してしまう自分がいます。 妻が発熱した時も、振り返ってみれば、人の相談事には耳を傾けるのに、常に私に愛情を注いでくれている産後の妻を顧みず、電話の一本もかけていないのが実情でした。 妻の「私の話も聞いてくれたら嬉しいなあ～」との言葉を聞いて、「吐く息引く息一つの加減で内々治まる」との教祖のお言葉をあらためて思い出しました。妻の口から出た冗談交じりの言葉は、私の性分も抑え込んでくれる絶妙の加減で、本当に頭の下がる思いでした。教祖が140年以上も前にお話になったことなのに、まるで今の自分に向けてお諭し下されているように感じました。 口に出す言葉の加減で、家庭内や職場、近所付き合いが丸く治まっていく。それが「吐く息引く息一つの加減で内々治まる」ということなのだと思います。もし腹が立ってしまった時に、その感情をそのまま言葉に乗せて相手にぶつけてしまえばトラブルに発展します。そのような気持ちになったら、一旦言葉を飲み込んで引いてみなければなりません。 また、妻の体調が悪い時には、「大丈夫か」と声をかけ、感謝の気持ちを伝える。そうした言葉を日頃から出すよう心がければ、内々は幸せに治まっていくでしょう。 人間の息は、冷たくなった相手の心を温めることもできれば、たかぶっている感情を鎮めることもできます。寒い冬、冷えてかじかんだ手に息を吹きかけて温めたり、また同じ息で熱い飲み物を冷ますこともできます。 心が弱っている人には温かく声をかけ、横断歩道を飛び出しそうな子供には大声で注意をする。 妻のように、言葉の使い方の加減ができるような人間になりたいと思います。それができれば、きっと私たちはお互いにもっと幸せになれるでしょう。 松村吉太郎さん 人は、何ごとも自分の勝手になるものと思い、とかく自分ひとりの苦楽や利害にとらわれがちになります。このような自己中心的な心遣いは、本人にとっては都合がいいかもしれませんが、まわりの人々や世の中にとっての迷惑、苦悩の原因となります。 人間は、きょうだいのように仲良くたすけ合って暮らすのが本来の姿ですから、私たちお互いは、自己中心的な心遣いを慎まなくてはなりません。 明治十九年の夏のことです。 当時ハタチの青年、松村吉太郎さんは、大阪の村役場へつとめながら、教祖のいらっしゃるお屋敷へ熱心に帰らせていただいていました。 ところが、若くて多少学問の素養もある吉太郎さんには、お屋敷へ寄り集う人々の教養のなさや、粗野な振る舞いなどが異様に映り、軽侮の念すら抱いていました。 ある日、吉太郎さんが教祖にお目通りすると、教祖は、「この道は、智恵学問の道やない。来る者に来なと言わん。来ぬ者に、無理に来いと言わんのや」と仰せになりました。 教祖からこのお言葉を承って、吉太郎さんは心の底から高慢のさんげをしました。そしてその生涯を、信仰の道一筋に歩んでいったのです。 後年、吉太郎さんは、「神様は身の内にある」と題して、このようなお話をしています。 「かりものの理とは、私ども人間の体は私どもがつくったものでもなければ、また、私どもの心のままに自由になるものでもありませぬ。すでに我がものでないとしますれば、だれのものでありましょう。すなわち、神様のものでありまして、神様はこの体を、ただしばらく、私ども人間にお貸し下されたのであります。 われわれのすること、思うことで、神様がお知りなさらぬことは一つもありません。どんな小さい心づかいでも、みな神様に響かぬということはないのです。 しかして、人間の心は肉体と同じく、初め神様から賦け与えられしものでありまするが、心だけは自由を付けて下さってあるがために、その心だけは借りものの肉体と異にして、心そのものが、すなわち自分ということになっているのでござります。 ゆえにわれわれは、自分の心をいずれのほうにでも自由に立て替え、どんな良いことでも悪いことでもすることができるので、そこでその心づかいがむずかしいのであります。 人間というものは、自分さえ都合よければよい、他人はどんなに困っていてもかまわぬなど、自分勝手の了見をのみ、出すことになりますが、これすなわち、ほしい、おしい、かわい、にくい、うらみ、はらだち、よく、こうまん、八つのほこりによるのであります。 八つのほこりと本来の誠とは、あたかも仇敵のごとく、八つのほこりがはびこれば、本来の誠は光をくらまし、本来の誠が強ければ、八つのほこりは自ら治まるというありさまにて、詮ずるところ、八つのほこりさえ起こらなければ、罪悪禍害の生ずる原因はないのであります。」 （終）
