The fog hanging over Vanderbilt baseball

Topics discussed: The Southeastern Conference's statement misrepresented about Friday's overturned home run mis-represented the call on the field, but because the decision was couched in replay review, by definition, there was nothing Tim Corbin or Vanderbilt could do to overturn it. We can't know with certainty that Braden Holcomb's hit left the ballpark in the air, but evidence and common sense suggest it's overwhelmingly likely that it did. There were a number of questionable coaching and strategy decisions that added to Friday's loss, too. There's still possibly a path to the NCAA Tournament, especially if Vanderbilt sweeps South Carolina, but Vanderbilt's RPI is out of range and it's hard to know how much the committee values DSR and KPI ratings. We're still puzzled as to why the pitching staff can't consistently throw strikes. Perhaps a record number of Vanderbilt players have missed time with injuries; is that bad luck or bad training or something else? A discussion of what changes should or shouldn't be made in the offseason. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. 2. 599

A make-or-break three weeks for Vanderbilt baseball

Matthew Shorey made a brief (but spectacular) debut. Alex Kranzler and Jacob Faulkner have pitched well lately. What might Vanderbilt's weekend pitching look like? A mostly-favorable matchup against Missouri. How many games must the Commodores win between now and season's end to make the NCAA Tournament? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  3. 598

The state of Vanderbilt basketball, with Will Perdue

Topics include: Where Bangot Dak can help and where he needs work. And the same for Nebraska's Berke Buyuktuncel, who's an important depth piece. The wild card in the class may be Auburn's Sebastian Adams-Williams. Thoughts on Tyler Tanner and the NBA. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  4. 597

Pitching shows signs of life but Vanderbilt loses series to Texas

Topics include: Diego Pavia wasn't drafted or offered a contract but will get an invite to the Baltimore Ravens' training camp. Vanderbilt fell a run short in its attempt to win the series with Texas. Aidan Stillman showed the promise that made him a high draft prospect out of high school last year. Connor Hamilton didn't pitch this weekend--what's next? Alex Kranzler and Jacob Faulkner have begun to contribute. How does Vanderbilt structure its pitching this week with a game with MTSU followed by a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series at Alabama, with final exams also a thing this week. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  5. 596

Hoops portal additions, the end of spring ball and baseball's big month ahead

Topics include: Women's basketball coach Shea Ralph had her Vanderbilt contract extended just before the show began. Charles Mays joins us to discuss the significance of that. An in-depth look at the men's basketball roster for next year, which increased by one (Missouri transfer T.O. Barrett) as the show was live. We look at the impact of Barrett, Ace Glass, Sebastian Williams-Adams, Bangot Dak and Blake Buyuktuncel. Baseball moved up about 25 spots in the RPI with two wins over Kentucky and another over Xavier, and is now moving closer to NCAA-Tournament-bid contention. But all the Commodores' pitching concerns remain, as does a brutal matchup with Texas this weekend. Final thoughts on spring football and also, a look ahead to one of the easier schedules in recent memory this fall. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  6. 595

Vanderbilt baseball gets a much-needed series win at Kentucky

Topics include: Vanderbilt's big RPI jump--can it make the NCAA Tournament? What can the Commodores do at first base and catcher with injuries and other challenges. Will Hampton temporarily replace Logan Johnstone? Vanderbilt still can't throw strikes--are there any answers? LSU's Jay Johnson says the transfer portal isn't always the answer. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  7. 594

Vanderbilt baseball gets road win (and needs more), hoops portal madness, spring football

Topics include: Some things from Vanderbilt's mid-week win over Lipscomb. Kentucky could be a decent matchup for Vanderbilt this weekend. Handicapping Vanderbilt's chances of making the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Some of the latest things that have stuck out from spring practice. The madness that is the basketball transfer portal (and why you shouldn't believe a lot of what you hear). Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  8. 593

Vanderbilt loses Oklahoma series; Kentucky and Lipscomb ahead

Topics include: Vanderbilt's opportunities to make the postseason are diminishing; it's still possible but it'll need to start with a road series win at Kentucky this week as road wins are key to what Vanderbilt needs to do to improve its RPI. Aiden Stillman had issues locating off-speed pitches against Oklahoma and paid for it. Connor Hamilton didn't throw this weekend but was warming up on Saturday. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  9. 592

Vanderbilt getting pitching healthy, plus, hoops portal/spring practice talk

Miller Green threw well on Tuesday. Aiden Stillman should also make an impact. Will Connor Hamilton start against Oklahoma? Who's standing out in spring practice? And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  10. 591

Connor Hamilton's gem, spring practice, hoops thoughts, more

Topics include: Thoughts on spring practice, including the quarterback picture. This team's depth really pops. Tyler Tanner, NIL deals and more hoops thoughts. Re-thinking the pitching after Hamilton's outstanding effort. We like what coach Tim Corbin did to realign the defense. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  11. 590

    Vandy sweeps the Vols

Topics include: Tommy Goodin's dramatic walk-off grand slam. Mack Whitcomb's walk-off bunt. Vanderbilt's struggling pitching staff managed to be good enough to get through 35 innings of a weekend sweep. The rivalry with Tennessee feels different than it did with Tony Vitello. What would it look like if you replaced the struggling end of the pitching staff with a healthy Miller Green and Aidan Stillman (both of whom could be back in the coming weeks). And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  12. 589

Seasons over for Vanderbilt men's hoops and also baseball's Austin Nye

Topics include: This was a likable basketball team led by a likable superstar in Tyler Tanner, who may or may not be back next season. Will other teams come after Vanderbilt's Mark Byington? Things look bleak for Vanderbilt's pitching staff with Nye out; it's a thin road to success from here and that would almost have to include England Bryan, Miller Green and Aidan Stillman getting better, but will that happen? How can the Commodores cover 27 innings on a weekend? Plus, we introduce a new staff member at Vandy 247! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  13. 588

An eventual week for Vanderbilt football, baseball and basketball

Topics include: The hitters seem to be feeling the pressure to produce due to a pitching staff that is pitching poorly. How much would the composition of weekend innings (and roles) change if the pitching gets healthy. Vanderbilt may wind up with the easiest conference schedule in the SEC. There's not much to see in the first days of spring practice, but the feel is completely different with the addition of Jared Curtis. Vanderbilt's NCAA Tournament draw could be a lot worse, even if the Commodores were mis-seeded. If the Commodores get to the Elite Eight, it could await a problematic Houston squad playing in its hometown. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  14. 587

Vanderbilt falls in SEC tournament final, faces McNeese in NCAA Tournament opener

Topics include: Duke Miles is playing his best basketball of the season--and probably not coincidentally, Vanderbilt is, too. The offense seems to be flowing as well as it has this year. Vanderbilt went through perhaps the toughest possible draw in the SEC tournament and in spite of that, was four minutes away from winning it. A look ahead to the matchup with McNeese. It makes little sense that Vanderbilt got a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but its draw also might not be bad. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  15. 586

The VandyBoys win a mid-week game, and hoops starts the SEC tournament

Topics include: Was Vanderbilt falling down four runs and coming back to win what the team needed? Statistically, the team is several wins better than its 11-7 mark, which indicates some hope... ... if the pitching can come through (and parts have gotten somewhat better)... ... but the staff has to get healthy and we're not sure if that's happening or not. Baseball is really lacking a home-field advantage right now. Plus, brief basketball talk. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  16. 585

Tyler Tanner leads Vanderbilt to victory in Knoxville

Topics include: Tyler Tanner, again, was tremendous. And AK Okereke was good, too. Tyler Nickel still can't find his shot but Duke Miles stepped up on both ends. Freshmen Chandler Bing continues to contribute in a big way and Jayden Leaverett does in pieces, too. The Commodores got the coveted double-bye and will be tested by the kinds of teams that can give them trouble. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  17. 584

Vanderbilt hoops wins a wild one at Ole Miss; baseball loses its fourth straight

Topics include: Tyler Tanner was amazing in a win at Ole Miss. Officiating was again, a topic of conversation. Vanderbilt needs to get Tyler Nickel and Duke Miles back to their prior forms. Foul trouble, again, was an issue. Baseball has lost four straight and pitching effectiveness and health are big concerns. Plus, Brodie Johnston, Collin Barczi and Rustan Rigdon have all been absent for various reasons on the hitting side. The RPI and strength of schedule metrics work against Vanderbilt, for now. Some pitchers who weren't supposed to be factors this season may need to be factors after all. The directed towards Tim Corbin is absurd. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  18. 583

Vanderbilt gets swept in Vegas--and it could get worse

Topics include: The pitching isn't up to Vanderbilt standards, and the bullpen has been particularly bad. The team didn't hit with men in scoring position, but that will pass. The injuries and absences are piling up--Colin Barczi, Aiden Stillman, Miller Green, Matthew Shorey and now perhaps Austin Nye. What's the best way to use Connor Fennell--or would Vandy have a choice based on injuries and ineffectiveness elsewhere? And much more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  19. 582

The VandyBoys keep hitting homers, plus, big basketball games ahead

Topics include: Tyler Tanner is one of our favorites after how he's played through the flu. Duke Miles is back and is going to help tremendously, even if his shooting wasn't there in the loss to Tennessee. A quick look ahead to the Georgia game. Braden Holcomb is on a tear. Brodie Johnson is striking out less. Vanderbilt is run-ruling everyone in sight. Pitchers have to throw more strikes. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  20. 581

Vanderbilt gets Duke Miles back, but loses another heartbreaker

Topics include: Miles's return wasn't perfect but it was needed. Miles and Tanner were both off their games, maybe for different reasons. Chandler Bing (again) defended at a high level. Jalen Washington was the enforcer inside that Vanderbilt needed on Saturday, blocking six shots and pulling 10 rebounds. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  21. 580

Commodores throw a no-hitter and hit more home runs

Topics include: Vanderbilt's no-hitter against Eastern Michigan. Logan Johnstone's having an under-the-radar great start. Tommy Goodin may have seized a job. Hitting coach Jason Esposito seems to have changed the team's approach--and it's working. Lefties Miller Green, Matthew Shorey and Aiden Stillman still haven't pitched. Alex Kranzler and Jacob Faulkner had quality mid-week appearances after struggling in Arlington. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  22. 579

It's bombs away for Brodie Johnston and the VandyBoys; plus, big hoops games ahead

Topics include: Why Luke is concerned about the men's basketball team until Duke Miles returns. Will Frankie Collins return? What do we make of the hitting performances of Johnston, Carter and Logan Johnstone, Braden Holcomb, Colin Barczi and others in the lineup? What happens when Mike Mancini returns? Thoughts on Connor Fennell, Alex Kranzler, Jacob Faulkner, Tyler Baird, Nate Taylor, Austin Nye and the pitching staff. The Commodores have thrown just one left-handed pitcher so far. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  23. 578

McGlockton, Nickel and Okereke come up big in win over Texas A&M

Topics include: Tyler Nickel hit big shots and handled the ball with Tyler Tanner sitting out late due to foul trouble. AK Okereke also helped with ball-handling duties and has become a reliable foul shooter, too. Devin McGlockton helped on the boards and added some big buckets. Could we see Duke Miles this week? Chris and Tim don't have much optimism of Frankie Collins returning. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  24. 577

Washington, Tanner help Vandy to a win at Auburn

Vanderbilt won a big game at Auburn despite: No Duke Miles No Frankie Collins Jalen Washington, Mike James and Devin McGlockton all lost to foul trouble Do we feel better about the Commodores' chances the rest of the season after this one? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  25. 576

    Baseball, elephants and more

Guest Luke Wyatt joins Chris Lee to discuss the upcoming baseball season and also, Vanderbilt men's basketball. Topics include: A thorough look at what the lineup might be; we may know the players but not their positions, or we may not know either, and it's likely that'll change weeks in. Pitching roles are also uncertain but there's proven talent as well as depth. The ceiling and floor are as hard to determine as any Vanderbilt team in a while. Mark Byington's basketball team is winning in new ways. The uncertain futures of Frankie Collins and Duke Miles. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  26. 575

Vanderbilt hangs on to beat Ole Miss with much-needed rest ahead

Topics include: Vanderbilt overcame a lot to get this win. The rest comes at a great time given injuries and illnesses to Frankie Collins, Duke Miles, Jalen Washington and Devin McGlockton--and this one being played in Nashville may have been a blessing. Coach Mark Byington had some interesting post-game remarks about Collins's readiness. Could Mike James swipe playing time from Collins if/when he returns? If fully healthy, the Commodores may have 11 players who could have value in the NCAA Tournament. Tyler Tanner, again, took a beating and was still great. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  27. 574

Will injuries to Collins, Miles make Vanderbilt stronger? That, and more, with Will Perdue

Topics include: What stood out in the blowout of Kentucky. Vanderbilt goes big with Frankie Collins and Duke Miles out--and that's caused problems for opponents. Vanderbilt has now shown it can win different ways. The importance of developing depth. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  28. 573

Vanderbilt blows out Kentucky without Miles; Ole Miss is next

Vanderbilt beat Kentucky by 25 without Duke Miles. Topics include: How Vanderbilt got bigger and found some strengths that perhaps it didn't know it had with increased minutes to Jayden Leaverett, Chandler Bing and Mike James. That's back-to-back games in which the Commodores have held opponents to a season low. Tyler Tanner, again, was great. Ole Miss is next, but where and when? There's been talk of moving the game to Friday in Birmingham and also playing in Nashville on Saturday, with the later game scheduled in Nashville moved to Oxford. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  29. 572

Vanderbilt blows out Mississippi State; Kentucky's next

Topics include: What changed between the Arkansas game and the Mississippi State contest? Are guards Tyler Tanner and Duke Miles getting worn down in spots with no Frankie Collins? Defensive improvements, including Vanderbilt's impressive slowing of Josh Hubbard. Changes to the rotation. A look ahead to Tuesday's game with Kentucky. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  30. 571

An embarrassing loss at Arkansas; how does Vanderbilt end its losing streak?

We talk about Vanderbilt's loss at Arkansas and also the home loss to Florida, and the hook-and-hold calls that had a major impact on the game. Also, how much will Frankie Collins help when he returns? Will weather impact Vanderbilt basketball in the upcoming week? And, a few football notes in addition to answering your mailbag questions. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

  31. 570

Vanderbilt football making noise in the transfer portal

Chris Lee and Luke Wyatt talk about what Vanderbilt gained and lost in the transfer portal so far. Topics include: The three biggest losses are Tre' Richardson, Linus Zunk and Randon Fontenette. But it could be argued that Vanderbilt replaced Richardson and Fontenette with relatively equal parts with Ja'Cory Thomas and Ricardo Jones and a number of defensive linemen who will get reps with Zunk's departure. Vanderbilt has a nice start on special teams with Alabama's Cole Adams to return punts and also receiver, as well as long-snapper Kaden Schickel and punter Tyler Ebel. Vanderbilt also landed a pair of offensive line starters in Lyndon Cooper and Beau Johnson and possibly others (Alabama's Micah DeBose could be another). Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Vandy hoops beats 'Bama, football portal talk, more, with Seabass

Chris Lee and Seabass discuss football and basketball topics on their Jan. 9, 2026 podcast. Topics include: Some experts consider Vanderbilt a legitimate national title contender after its win over No. 13 Alabama--and a lot of metrics suggest they're right. Tyler Tanner is a completely different offensive player from a year ago to an incredible degree--and he might be a first-round NBA draft pick this summer, too. The importance of Frankie Collins and depth. Vanderbilt has made some nice additions in the transfer portal at offensive tackle and tight end. But the losses of Tre' Richardson and Randon Fontenette seem significant. The Commodores need to find edge rushers in a big way. And more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It's a major award! Stowers wins Campbell Trophy, Pavia heads to NYC, Vandy goes to Tampa, more

Note: This episode was originally published to podcast feeds on Thursday, Dec. 11, but didn't show up on all of them due to a technical error. The re-release is an attempt to correct that. Our apologies. The awards continue to come in for Vanderbilt--or at least sometimes, they do. Eli Stowers took home the prestigious Campbell Trophy on Wednesday night, and Diego Pavia heads to New York City on Saturday, where he may or may not win the Heisman Trophy. However, while Stowers and Pavia were selected for the coaches' all-Southeastern Conference team on Tuesday, the rest of the Commodores were shut out. Meanwhile, the Commodores will head to Tampa to face Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl and men's basketball, now ranked in the top 15, resumes action on Saturday against Central Arkansas.
