Power of Love-Heather Houston
I was strolling the cliffs one afternoon in Santa Cruz Ca, contemplating the power of love vs. the love of power and just started singing "when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." I knew this wasn't an original thought and looked up the quote when I got back to the car. Jimi Hendrix?!?! Yes, he was the one to speak the quote out loud at a concert, but the original quote is attributed to William Gladstone, Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Chinmoy, and other spiritual teachers. I invite you to sing along and feel the peace in your heart.

Rising Strong 2025 Version - Heather Houston
Rising Strong was originally written in 2018. This version has more fun parts for your singers. When I lead it at a song circle, or with my choir, we sing all five parts. When I lead it at a rally, I just teach part one and part 4 for time and simplicity sake. Rising Strong 2025 - Heather Houston Part 1: Oh take my hand now, yes you belong And lift your voice now, we’ll sing this song And we will root down into the ground now We’re rising strong, yeah, we’re rising strong Part 2: Strong, Rising strong, We are strong, Rising strong Part 3: Strong, Strong, We are strong, Rising strong Parts 4 and 5: And we are warriors of the light And we are stronger when we unite We are here to waken the love We are rising strong, yeah we’re rising strong!

Here and Now
Inspired by my Art of Mindful Singing students. When I asked for a chant to come through for them / us in these times, this is what emerged. In all that's moving and shaking right now, we need to keep finding the center of our own magnificent beingness.

08 - Conversation with a Raven
A super fun song to sing!! I was walking back to my car after leading a Sisters in Harmony retreat at 1440 Multiversity — it was a transformational time in my life, a great time of leaning into my power and surrendering to the unfolding of my soul’s purpose. This raven hopped toward me, right to the edge of a car in the lot, not more than a foot away. It started by checking out my shiny earrings, and then looked directly into my eyes, into my soul… And we had a psychic conversation that went something like this… Lyrics: A conversation, with a raven, A conversation, yes I had, A conversation, with a raven, A conversation, and I said, I’ve never had a conversation with a raven How I love your sparkling earrings And your eyes so bright Oh please would you Let me take them Home with me tonight? Let me take you to worlds between Through the portals of things unseen We’ll unveil the magic of your innermost dreams We’ll harness the power of your brave Queen

16 - Bird of Light
I offer this chant as a powerful practice of presencing. In the dark, difficult, and uncertain times, one of the most powerful tools I’ve found is to chant mantra. Mantra, that which protects the mind, helps us to enter into a one-pointed concentration, thus quieting the looping stories and the fears. Choose one part and stick to it throughout, and notice how you feel afterward. This is also a beautiful one to sing with a large group of people. Hamsa so hum translates as “I Am That” in Sanskrit. In Vedic philosophy, it means identifying oneself with the universe or ultimate reality. The Soham mantra has been called the universal mantra because of the fact that its vibration is already a part of the breath, and everybody breathes. Sooooo… is the sound of inhalation, and Hummmm… is the sound of exhalation. Hamsa means white swan. The swan, of course, is an ancient symbol of spiritual grace and purity. The mantra is called White Swan because when the in-breath and out-breath are freed and purified, they are like the wings of a swan helping our spirits to soar. The Hamsa mantra helps us find the grace within and carries us beyond our limited concepts. Lyrics: Part 1 Hamsa so hum, hamsa so hum Part 2 I am that I am that I am, I am that I am that I am Part 3 So hum, so hum, so hum, so hum Part 4 I am this breath, I am this voice Part 5 I am a bird of light, I am a bird in flight

01 - I'm a Woman
Music by Heather Houston and Lyrics by Dr. Maya Angelou Copyright © 2024 Heather Houston Music (BMI) and Caged Bird Legacy (ASCAP) Lyrics: Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can’t see. I say, It’s in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Now you understand Just why my head’s not bowed. I don’t shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing, It ought to make you proud. I say, It’s in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need for my care. ’Cause I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.

10 - Sacred Vessel
A love song to the body temple, and a prayer that we all may treat our bodies as the sacred vessels they are. The healing wisdom lies within. My body is a sacred vessel That cycles with the stars and the moon My body is a sacred vessel Her rhythm is always in tune And I cherish who she is becoming And I listen to the wisdom she brings I love her as she is in this moment I am lifted as she sings My body is a sacred vessel That sheds my tears And embraces the rain My body is a sacred vessel There is wisdom in her pain And I honor her in her fullest expression I’m opening to all that she feels And I am thankful for the journey we’re sharing I am lifted as she heals My body is a sacred vessel That holds my heart And frees my soul My body is a sacred vessel Her every need I come to know And I treat her with compassion and kindness And I hold her close and remove all her sheathes I invite her to dance with grace and devotion I am lifted as she breathes

Earth Hold Me - Heather Houston
A request for the elementals to hold us as we move through our deepest sorrows, our deepest griefs. It's in the ask that the request is answered. We have only to open and receive. This one came through in one of my Singing as Sanctuary classes as I was processing some of my own personal grief, and the more I chanted it, the more it became about the collective grief. The more I sang, the more supported I felt, the more I was able to let go and cry. Earth hold me as I sing Air fill me as I breathe Water flow through me Fire transform the grief Heather Houston © 04/2023
