Remembering Ray Shero
We meant to come in and discuss Sidney Crosby for our 87th episode, but with the sudden passing of former Penguins GM, Ray Shero, we look back on his tenure as general manager of our beloved hockey team, including the deals that led to the 2009 Stanley Cup championship. Our condolences to the Shero family. We also review the Pirates historically pathetic public relations week, and maybe Shedeur Sanders to the Steelers is something that could happen?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are Who We Thought They Were
The Riverhounds are the only winning team in town, but we also discuss why the Penguins future is still the main interest in our eyes.

2025 Pittsburgh Pirates Season Preview: Probably Really Bad
With the MLB's Opening Day just about here, we finally cave and preview the Pirates season. The good news is we like them against the Marlins this weekend, and even Skenes for Cy Young. However, there are plenty of reasons to doubt as we have learned for the past 10 years.Russell Wilson officially signs with the Giants, crossing another QB off the free agent list. Nevin makes his bold Steelers claim by stating Aaron Rodgers will sign with the Steelers when Pat McAfee brings his show to Pittsburgh on April 9th, 2025.The Penguins are back in losing form after a trouncing in Tampa, so we finally attempt some in-depth Riverhound analysis. Cody also poorly explains the plot and most recent episode of HBOMax's The White Lotus to Nevin.

Pens Are Done, Let's Learn Riverhounds! + Bracket Breakdown
Tristan Jarry is back to his regular form as the Penguins playoff hopes have just about hit absolute zero after Tuesday night's loss to the Islanders, so we bring you another couple of prospects to look for in the 2025 NHL Draft. We visit the latest reason for Bucco fan misery as Jared Jones has question marks surrounding his throwing arm popping up.We also begin to dive into Riverhounds talk as we teach ourselves how the USL works, as well as how World Cup Qualification works (don't worry, the USA is in the World Cup).Lastly we take a look towards the madness of March basketball, as we review Saint Francis' heartbreaking loss to Alabama State and look forward to a miracle Cinderella run from Robert Morris, as well as a breakdown of our brackets.

Hey NHL GMs, Tristan Jarry is Great Again! + Empty Steelers QB Room
Don't look now, but after two straight wins, we make the case for other NHL general managers that Tristan Jarry is a great gamble for another team's goaltending struggles this offseason! The Steelers QB is empty and we are now deep into quarterback purgatory. We make our predictions as to what the rest of the offense looks like as the NFL's new calendar year begins!Nevin also makes his fiery take of the week in regards to the Meadville vs Uniontown playoff basketball brawl.

2025 NHL Trade Deadline Recap, Rakell, Grzelyck & Karlsson Stay in Pittsburgh

Penguins Embracing the Tank + Prospect Preview: Anton Frondell
Three losses out of the four nations break and somehow each one got uglier, it's tank time in Pittsburgh and like the Penguins, YinzCenter is embracing the tank. With an 8.5% chance at the first overall pick (the fifth best odds a team can have), we decide to take a look at a prospect in the 2025 NHL Draft out of Sweden that could very much be in play for the Penguins. Perhaps the gradient Robo Pen is making a comeback??Of course, we touch base on the preseason for the Buccos and Riverhounds, and there's still no really interesting news from the Steeler offseason and we tell you why.We also pay our respects to Mike Lange and Michelle Trachtenberg as we reminisce about 90s films. Cody tries to convince Nevin to watch Gossip Girl and YOU the listener can pressure him into doing so. Leave a review about how Nevin should watch Gossip Girl and do a weekly breakdown of what he thinks is happening because he would despise it.

Recapping Four Nations Facing Off + Buccos or Riverhounds? Who Should We Care More About?
USA vs Canada on ice, Nevin watches the sled edition of the matchup live on the show, we preview the Four Nation Face Off Championship edition on Thursday night and discuss what roster tweaks teams should make before the 2026 Olympics. For the rest of the 2024-25 Penguins season, we're going to bring you a little recap on draftable prospects because winning games isn't exactly helpful at this point, with that being said, we're going to need more sports to talk about. Cody makes the case for more Riverhound discussion on the show.

Preview for "The Big Game" + Petterson and DOC Trade Recap
The first ever YinzCenter to be recorded on Super Bowl Sunday, we look at the New Evil Empire vs the Philly Scumbags, we finally get into our reaction on the first Penguins trade of 2025 as the NHL heads into its Four Nations face-off break (the rosters are already devastated and play hasn't happened yet), we're fully embracing the tank and we hope for a healthy Sidney Crosby. Mrs. YinzCenter rejoins the show to give the Swiftie perspective on "The Big Game", Cody accepts the fate of the Kansas City Chiefs being our new NFL overlords while Nevin gives his hot take regarding the Paralympics.

Pittsburgh Sports are in a Disaster State + Antigua Trip Review
If you like sports talked mixed with miscellaneous travel tales, this is the episode for you, as Cody mixes in tales of his return from Antigua, featuring an overnight stay at the hotel directly next to Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.Embrace the tank Pens fans! Get ready to embrace hockey talk beyond the game-to-game stuff as the Mikko Rantanen trade took the NHL headlines and discussion of core players being moved are heating up (NO SIDNEY CROSBY ISNT GOING ANYWHERE ANY "SOURCE" WHO TELLS YOU SO IS LITERALLY LESS CREDIBLE THAN US). As for the rest of the sports in Pittsburgh, the Steelers are essentially irrelevant for the short term and is the NFL starting to trend that way with this Super Bowl matchup? The nicest thing one can say about the Pirates right now is that they are trying to be the best at being an incompetent baseball organization (at least they brought someone back?).

1st YinzCenter of 2025: Playoff Edition
It sure is a pessimistic playoff edition, everyone is picking the Ravens to win in the first round of the NFL playoffs, but like...maybe?We also look at the Penguins as the team's halfway point of their season has come and gone, expect trades, who goes and what to expect?
-
76
Stick to Sports
Now that we have cooled down from the national news cycle, we return to our regular sports talk. Don't look now, but are the Penguins getting hot? Steelers clinch a playoff berth, but the division is on the line this weekend in Baltimore, and the Pirates do nothing of significance.
-

Battle of the Steagles Preview + Possible CEO Assassin Found in Altoona
10-3 Steelers at 11-2 Eagles, not much more needs to be said there. We touch base on some international headline grabbing news that's occurred in this southwestern corner of Pennsylvania, and are the Penguins back to their old ways?

We Watch Tristan Jarry's NHL Return + Steelers vs Ravens Week
Nevin makes his return to the show bringing plenty of details from his sled hockey adventures from the past few weeks. Plenty to talk about as Nevin returns to the Burgh as the 7-2 Steelers take on the 7-3 Ravens for some midseason pole positioning in the AFC North, the biggest Pittsburgh v Baltimore matchup in the Steel City in at least five years in terms of the standings! The Penguins rebuild looks to be underway after Lars Eller is shipped off to Washington and we watch Tristan Jarry's (brief?) return to the crease in Columbus. We also break down Bob Nutting's Willy Wonka-esque giveaway in search of the 1/1 Paul Skenes rookie card from Topps. Would Bob Nutting's "everything" be enough to give up what could potentially be the most sought after baseball card since rookie Nolan Ryan?Plus we deliver an important public safety announcement to warn yinz to not drive into buildings, it's getting a bit too frequent.

Introducing: Mrs. YinzCenter! + Intern Interview
Half of YInzCenter returns from a brief break, bringing a slightly new format for yinz listeners. Nev is currently in Dallas with his hockey team, so I figured its time for the listeners to get a formal introduction, and with a new format in place, we found an intern applicant who has listened since day one to help us possibly take YinzCenter to next levels. Does the intern pass the test to the listeners? Reach out and let us know!

Pens Stars Hitting Milestones + Russ Wilson QB1?
Welcome to the roller coaster part of the Pittsburgh sports season! The Penguins are already playing chaotic and emotional hockey while the two-headed-monster hits some milestones against the Sabres, the Steelers QB bubble has officially popped and Antonio Brown is going to speak at a Donald Trump rally in Latrobe. Will he show up in a helicopter like his last arrival to Latrobe. We will laugh, we will cry, we will beg for it to be over, but we could be seeing some things we may never forget. Ain't it fun?

YinzCenter's 69th Episode: Is Tomlin Actually on the Hot Seat Now?
Now that Penguin hockey is fully underway, back to the Steelers: phew, sure seems like a lot of the heat has turned up on Tomlin following two straight losses, however the former "Twittersphere" isn't the Rooney office. We get into the manner of the consistent inconsistency of the Steelers and discuss the downfall of a once-elite NFL offense before looking at week six's suddenly pivotal matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Penguins Hockey Eve with YinzCenter
The NHL season is officially underway and we review the Penguins opening night lineup: Nevin gloats about his offseason prediction of Rutger McGroarty making the opening night lineup and we review the October slate for the Penguins. We give you both of our optimistic and maybe more reasonable Penguin takes for the years, trying to perhaps set an expectation bar for Yinzers who follow the Penguins this 2024-25 season for individual matchups, season long expectations against the Metro division, Dubas's plan to the season with expiring contracts to keep an eye on down the line and more!

Yinzer Sports are Boomin!
A YinzCenter episode where we are fully back in the swing of football season, feels great to finally recap some football, especially when the Steelers are alone in first in the AFC North! It seemed like the "quarterback controversy" was nonexistent at one point, but is it real now? Can a Justin Fields led offense score a touchdown in week two in Denver? We also have a big local college football game as West Virginia comes to Pittsburgh this weekend to revive the Backyard Brawl for the 107th time, do we think this rivalry should be one that sticks around for good? The Pirates have pulled off four wins in a row, is there any hope? Also, some Pittsburgh Penguins players are making their way back to the team's practice facility, so if you aren't subscribed to YinzCenter yet, now is the time as hockey season is just around the corner!

On August 29, 2024, Columbus Blue Jackets forward/NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were tragically killed by an intoxicated driver. Nevin shares his tale about his personal encounter with Johnny, the boys discuss growing up with hockey, and we deliver a PSA to Penguin fans looking for a scapegoat (do not complain about Hayes). We wish the best for the Gaudreau family, Flames and Jackets fans, and anyone who has been afflicted by this life being cut short.

Description

The Buccos Season is Dead, Fantasy Football Prep Begins
10 straight losses to teams ahead of you in a playoff race will pretty much bury any competing team and that's where the Pittsburgh Pirates find themselves at the halfway point of August, tumbling down to last place in the NL Central, so begins the traditional Yinzer focus shift from baseball to football. Is it any rosier on the gridiron with the Steelers? Looks rough for now, but is there hope? The YinzCenter boys lay out their preparations to have a successful fantasy football season and the Penguins make a couple of trades, our instant analysis on those Dubas deals, this week on YInzCenter.

YinzCenter: Steelers Insiders?? + Happy Birthday Sidney Crosby!
After a lovely dinner with their grandmother, the YinzCenter boys are back as the playoff race we least expected to see in Pittsburgh might very well already be over as the Pirates dropped a crucial series against the Diamondbacks and continue to not look like the inferior team against the San Diego Padres. Steeler football is right around the corner and Cody has EXCLUSIVE INSIDER INFORMATION FROM STEELERS TRAINING CAMP (No Brandon Aiyuk is not going to be a Steeler) and we celebrate Sidney Crosby's birthday before we realize there still has been no extension signed by Sid. Is it now panic time? Subscribe and find out on YinzCenter!

57
The Buccos Bought at the Trade Deadline???
Back from a brief 7/24 day hiatus and it appears that the first serious playoff push YinzCenter will be covering will be your Pittsburgh Pirates (yes the Steelers made the playoffs, but they never had a real shot against the Bills) after GM Ben Cherington found multiple ways to address the needs in the batting lineup, we break down the chances for an actual postseason berth. Speaking of Steelers, training camp is officially under way in Latrobe and Nevin is passionate that Justin Fields deserves a shot. Where do we see the Steelers amongst the rest of the AFC before injuries become rampant? Top 6? Middle of the pack? Struggling? Is Nevin really that passionate or is he too far gone into conspiracies bubbling out from Butler as the aftershock of the assassination attempt of Donald Trump? Find out all of this and more this week on YinzCenter!

YinzCenter discusses: The Failed Assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, PA
The big headline from this past week in Pittsburgh? Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes started and looked good in one inning of the MLB All Star Game. Will the Pirates actually make a push for a bat?The real big headline from this past week in Pittsburgh, the attempted assassination of former President, Donald Trump, at his rally in Butler, PA on Saturday, July 13, 2024. How suspicious is all of this already? We discuss everything we have been told so far and ask some questions people are thinking regarding to this situation.
-
55
YinzCenter Wonders: Can the 2024 Pittsburgh Pirates Make the MLB Playoffs?
While the Pirates continue to tread water in the NL wild card race, Paul Skenes continues to shine and grab all the MLB headlines as he has proven in a short span that he is already the best pitcher in the MLB, as we have been telling you, and is now headed to the All Star game, we ask the big question: Are the playoffs attainable for this team?

YinzCenter's 2024 NHL Free Agency Reaction: What is the Dubas Plan?
With the Stanley Cup Final concluded, the NHL has rushed the offseason happenings as the NHL Draft and first two days of free agency are mostly behind us, a lot of the big waves have already crashed through our lives. We look at where the Penguins stands after their current free agent class acquistions of Blake Lizotte, Matt Grzelyck, Anthony Beauvillier and AHLers. We also try to answer a lot of questions Pens fans have: Is there anything else on the horizon for the Penguins this offseason? Will anyone else be traded? What is the grand plan for Kyle Dubas for this season and beyond?

YinzCenter Wraps Up the 2023-24 NHL Season and Peeks to Next Season with Davie Phillips
We continue our One Year Anniversary tour with the return of Davie "Sunshine" Phillips to wrap up the 2023-24 NHL Season (finally) as the Florida Panthers claim Lord Stanley's Cup. We recap some of the takes we put out into the world last time Davie was on (October 27, 2023), as well as dive in to the mind of a Columbus Blue Jackets fan and realize that with the Pittsburgh Pirates around, we can relate to mediocrity from pro sports teams. We also look into the future as we determine what to expect next for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets as the NHL offseason is literally right around the corner with the draft and free agency opening up in just a few short days. There may even be some CONTROVERSIAL questions asked, so tune in n'at!

The official one year mark of YinzCenter has come and gone, and to celebrate: We throw things back to our very first episode, where we had 2010 Paralympic Gold Medalist and Primanti Brother's mural face, Dan McCoy on. Nevin and Dan discuss the latest happenings in the sled hockey world while we sum up the current state of the Stanley Cup Finals, NHL Trades (during playoffs?), Paul Skenes, the nonsensical "Brandon Aiyuk to the Steelers" talk, and making our own Penguins/NHL trade rumors (Brady Tkachuck to the Penguins????).Also we finally feature the debut of the long anticipated "tin foil hat" segment, so you'll want to stay tuned for this one!

Saturdays are for YinzCenter! What's Next?
On YinzCenter's first ever Saturday episode, we discuss whether the Pirates are worth discussing or not, the Penguins hiring of Dan Quinn as an assistant coach on Mike Sullivan's staff and we remember when the Penguins were actually winning Stanley Cups.We look back as we rapidly approach almost one full year of YinzCenter and perhaps the future might just hold even more YinzCenter for all of yinz, thanks for supporting!

Paul Skenes: That's the Headline
Not really much else going on besides that guy pitching, huh? Does Skenes open up a World Series window for the Pirates? Those are questions we answer during this episode. We avoid Steelers OTA reports by making up Penguins rumors, such as Mitch Marner for Ryan Graves, Reilly Smith and P.O. Joseph. If you're asking "is that even possible?" find out how this week on YinzCenter! (It's a better rumor than Shayne Gostisbehere)

YinzCenter goes Worldwide ft. 2024 Para Ice Hockey Gold Medalist Auren Halbert
@aurenhalbert7829 joins the show to talk about his gold medal winning performance with Team Canada at the 2024 Para Ice Hockey World Championship, winning gold in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta, and his time spent with the Pittsburgh Penguins sled hockey program. Your YinzCenter boys finally have a game to recap with another Paul Skenes afternoon game that led to another dud for the Buccos. The Buccos look like they have a World Series worthy starting rotation, but lacking the rest of the roster firepower to go any further. And of course, the 2026 NFL Draft was announced to be hosted by Pittsburgh, so we break down what that might actually end up looking like.

YinzCenter's Sorta Penguins Off-Season Preview + Steelers Schedule
First off, what is that last eight week of the Steelers schedule? Brutal. We break down the Pittsburgh pro football schedule and what to expect for the year before training camp begins and we take a look at what the Penguins have on their plate for the off season. Is there a YinzCenter curse? Last week we complimented the USA sled hockey team's recent dominance, the Timberwolves and Val Nichuskin of the Colorado Avalanche. Since then, USA sled hockey lost to Canada for the first time in years, the Timberwolves now trail 3-2 after being up 2-0 in their series, and Val Nichuskin is back in the NHL's Player Assistance Program serving a 6+ month suspension 😬

YinzCenter Presents: Paul Skenes Debut: Will Nevin Rizz Up Livvy Dunne?
The most anticipated Pittsburgh Pirates prospect since Gerrit Cole, Paul Skenes, is set to make his MLB debut on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs and that is pretty much the only Pittsburgh sports news that is worthy of headlines right now. 2023-24 Penguin's Season Recap - We Get Nothing. We Lose. Good day sir!
Frankly we really thought we were going to get at least one round of Penguin playoff hockey in during our first year of YinzCenter, but with the Red Wings and Capitals both winning their respective game last night, we begin to break down the ugly reality in front of Mr. Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins organization as while we believe change is needed, with all of these players with No-Movement-Clauses, how can the Penguins realistically change for next year? The first round pick goes to San Jose, maybe Carolina's could be had at 31 or 32 if they advance to their first cup since 2006, but that pick won't help next year's team. There will most certainly be more speculation on this front as the NHL playoffs roll on without Pittsburgh again. We take a look into the Pirates as things begin to skid against the Mets in the Big Apple, why the closer "controversy" seems to be silenced, and the slate against Fenway Sports Group's Red Sox and Milwaukee. We also Remember When an ex-Greensburg police chief was doing "Breaking Bad"-ish stuff.

We bring plenty of bracket talk this week, we embrace the tank as we start breaking down who is worse than the Penguins currently, and the Steelers have a completely new quarterback room. Don't listen to the "insiders", listen to the Yinziders of YinzCenter
