We read the original, and have a lot of thoughts about sports drama booking and fumbling a bunch of women who are down bad for the blandest girl alive.

Em and Export Audio’s Autumn finally finished the long-running manga series Land of the Lustrous as its final volume was released in English last month. Now we’re here to talk about how much we love these wayward gems, the empty world they inhabit, and the big ideas they aspire to. So of course we immediately have two experiments diverging from that simple goal. Last time was half a Toku show and I think it worked well. Today is Volume 1 of Akira! We’ll be doing shorter Akira episodes every four to six weeks, nothing rigidly planned just when we can fit them in, but we’d like to be regular about them. We thought if anything deserved the more episodic approach it was Otomo’s famously dense manga.
