0002 - Hidden from God | The Dead Sea Scrolls

A Bedouin shepherd threw a stone into a cave above the Dead Sea in nineteen forty seven and shattered jars holding the greatest manuscript discovery of the twentieth century. The cliffs at Qumran yielded more than nine hundred manuscripts, some a thousand years older than any previously known biblical text. A small team of scholars, appointed through a Catholic institution in Jerusalem, held exclusive rights to hundreds of unpublished fragments for nearly four decades with no deadline and no outside review. Believers claim the texts were deliberately kept from the public because they threatened the foundations of Christianity itself.
