001 - Introduction Part 1

from Psychology- the Cognitive Powers · host James McCosh

For over thirty years, Ive been dedicated to teaching Psychology through engaging written lectures to students across Ireland and America. Each year, I refine my course, ensuring it evolves with the times. Much like Uncle Tobys stockings, which were so lovingly patched that their original threads were lost, my lectures have undergone continuous improvement, and I cant say that a single sentence from my early notes remains unchanged. My desire is for this work to serve as a textbook, expanding the reach and longevity of my teaching. While some may deem textbooks as dull, I strive to bring life to mental science by illustrating concepts with relatable examples from human nature. Just as general laws are derived from specific instances, these ideas are best grasped through concrete experiences that resonate with our everyday lives.
