0031 - Design Action with Rohan Perera

from Design Talk (dot IE)

Welcome to the podcast. I am CalayjiaAnd I am Zain. Today we are talking with Rohan Perera, entrepreneur and one of the founders of HEBE, Design Sprint Ireland and Leandisruptor.com among other ventures. You are very welcome to the podcast, Rohan. Can you tell us a little about yourself to begin? The idea of “Design Thinking” and “Design sprints” seem to have become ubiquitous in recent years, who is using it and why? So: build, make, tinker and learn - prototype test, observe and evaluate.Isn’t design thinking just another (new product development (NPD) process? What do you think is motivating the “Design” movement? Is it a fad or a real shift in mind-set and commercial imperative? Can anyone develop a design attitude? How can a newbie start out?Can you talk about the role of the facilitator? What are the benefits of having someone facilitate a group design sprint?I think that facilitation is a bit of an art, subtle and difficult to get right. What do you look for in our own facilitation practice, how do you stay fresh and keep on-track?What is the difference between facilitating a sprint and conducting (or managing?) all the multiple moving parts of the whole new product development process? How sustainable are Sprints? If the approach is so productive, why don’t we do it all the time?Jack Knapp’s Sprint process starts with “setting the stage”, starting with a big problem, a long-term goal. But where do long-term goals come from? How do we identify and decide on these big problems? That is a good point to finish on. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences today.Acknowledgements:Music(EzaOne - Supernova: youtu.be/xZDYu5azS-c)Title: Eza One - SupernovaArtist: Argofox (record label)Source: “https://soundcloud.com/argofox/ezaone-supernova”License: “CC BY”Argofox is a record label releasing royalty free music for creators to use in monetized videos and streams in exchange for credit.Cover Art Title: "Blueprint for the Human Driver"Artist: (a graphic treatment by Allen Higgins).Source: fileLicense: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0The blueprint is a treatment of the image “Space Envelope for a Compact Automobile” and is used under Fair Use. AI Erik's Podcast Audio Erik Conn The AI News Podcast where we talk AI. NEWMORROW SESSIONS - A PodCast Series on the Future of Hospitality Mario C. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next.
