Well, I wrote those ones down and I'm going to write them a strongly worded letter in hand, by handwritten, like handwritten letter.
Or what about the ones that don't actually allow special characters like they don't want dollar signs. They don't want. Yeah, I'm from the American number one. It's so funny.

I mean, in my dream would be here tomorrow morning, but in reality, I don't know. A petabyte per second, I think we're probably like 50. Yeah, I was going to say like 50 years from now or something like that. Yeah, that's why I'm at it's like 50 years from now.
But at that point, you know, like who knows? They might not even be measuring in bits. They'll be measuring something else. Well, because what I'm also thinking too is because like right now, that what we have is fiber fiber optics.
What is the maximum speed that fiber optics can handle? I think it's like theoretically a really, really, really large number. Because it's theoretically the speed of light. So it could technically handle a petabit per second.
I'm assuming if the data's compressed enough and you can send it over the wire and interpret it? Yes. Okay. But of course, nobody wants to be wired straight into fiber optics.
So we would also need to send that wirelessly. So petabit per second. There's going to be just these intense beams that are going like throughout our entire home. All right.
So a little bit of real time follow up. Some quick finger searching says it looks like in the terabits per second area, probably a couple hundred terabits is what it looks like the maximum would be over fiber. Okay. So we would need a whole new technology to handle a petabit.
We would if we're going to go to a petabit, correct. Okay. I mean, it's really interesting though, because I think I just heard something about a new technology coming out because I mean, Wi-Fi would have to go away because it'd be way too slow. Right.
And so I have recently, I read about something called Wi-Li, W-I-L-I, and it's like all through light that it does that. I don't exactly understand how it works, but it seems interesting because it may mean that we actually are able to, you know, transmit at the speed of light, I would assume. Yeah. Remember that where it's like you could take an image or something like that and transmit it via light or something?
See, that one would go through walls. Light can't go through walls. Well, you have a bunch of solar panels on your roof and that's like a repeater for what's inside your house. And then when you're outside, you're just living on the repeaters from other towers.
I don't understand how that answered my concern or address my concern. What I'm saying is like, if you have a, so say you have a router inside of your home, but it's not Wi-Fi, it's light. I mean, you would have to be in the same open room and say your computer in order for it to work. It can't be in a closet or something like that.
Well, but the one petabyte per second is for the, like the upload, right? That's for like the internet traffic. So we can get like internal speeds, like when you're pretty close to a router, like those can get pretty high pretty quick. And that's not like where the big lag is.
It's the lag is going out to the rest of the internet. So theoretically, like if you had a house that had all these panels on the top that absorb all this light and transferred it to internet or whatever, then inside you could repeat that to something else. That's fine. And then when you were out and about, there'd be like some giant data center, big tower, whatever that would collect all this and distribute it out.
Just like they have cell phone towers right now. I'm just curious though, is it possible with something like light? If light was the transmission source, is it possible that it could be converted into something out? I mean, for example, you can use electricity to basically then spread light in another area where there isn't currently light.
So is it possible that you could use light as an electricity in certain areas to just make a bunch of repeaters or do something like that? Anybody know? A little correction. I think it's not...

I mean, I think another interesting point to bring up is we said this is going to be like a terminal or like some sort of thing you walk up to. Will the computer even look like that at 50 years from now? Or is it going to... I mean, obviously, I think we've kind of talked about this.
Things are changing and fast. So what will the computer look like in 50 years? Is it relieving it to be that? Or is it just going to be like, yeah, I just kind of have the entire internet in my head and somehow there's a chip that talks to a pet of it per second internet connection?
I think the computer will be like paper thin and the monitor will probably just be a projection. It wouldn't even be an actual screen anymore. I think we talked about that too. How like, you know, the wearables was like one step towards implantables.
And that's going to be the next thing is like people setting up the surgery to get something implanted and then it's going to like give them all this data and access to everything. So I think that's what's going to be like, you'll have something implanted in you that is able to serve up this information and either project it like directly to your brain or something like that now. Is that 50 years out? Uh, probably not, but I can see that like being what computers are moving towards.
I think it's fair to say things are going to change a lot and we're not entirely sure what that's going to look like, but it's definitely not going to be kind of what we know today. But right. So Adam, what other questions do you have against my, uh, pythream? Well, other than the fact that, you know, it's all still theoretical.
In thinking about like what it's going to be, like, who knows how things are going to turn out, but like I'm curious, I guess it's to like what, what your pricing would be? Like what was something like this? Like is this going to be something everyone can afford? Is it going to be something only the elite can afford?
I mean, like we talked about last time, you know how like the self-driving car will be probably out of like most people's price points to start, but like eventually, you know, self-driving car will be just the mainstream thing. Do you think this is going to be like the same thing? It's going to start out as like super, super expensive or is it going to be something that the government subsidizes and just monitors everyone with or what's going to look like? Pricing, I mean, I tend to think it's going to be similar to what we talked about last time.
You know, where it'll be expensive at first and only for the rich and it'll make its way to the masses slowly. I mean, I think, you know, what we've got, take a bit per second connections now in certain areas, not mainstream, but in those areas, I mean, it's fairly actually inexpensive today. It's kind of getting surprising how cheap that is. So I think, you know, it'll be kind of like that.
I mean, when we first heard of gigabit per second internet connections like five or 10 years ago, it was like maybe five years ago, I heard of that for the first time and I was like, wow, that's crazy. And I had this thought, you know, it'd be just a monstrous amount and only certain people would use it. But, you know, now it's actually pretty inexpensive. You know, I think we're looking at it kind of backwards here because if we really look at history and how technology is progressed, it's developed based off of a need.
So for instance, like graphics cards, you know, graphics cards has progressed or advanced based off of the needs of like games that have come out for it and things like that. So I think what it's going to really come down to is that this type of technology or these types of speeds will come from a need to have them. So whether it's like we were talking about earlier, super, super high resolution video content, crazy large files, things like that. And then from there, it will be something that is going to be necessary.
I mean, I think you've got a point there. And I mean, I think, you know, I mean, a lot of things to arrive from like military, like, you know, I mean, you said that there was a need like GPS or something like that. So, you know, I mean, it's very possible that some sort of government contractor or something like that requires this and then it comes to the masses after. Right.
Right. So like what I'm saying is like, when do you see files getting so large to where we need a petabit per second? And what kind of files will we be looking at? Just videos?
Just, you know, 10K videos streaming or what would, you know, what would be what we're looking at to be necessary? Yeah. I mean, I don't really know. I don't know how big files are going to have to get that it's going to require that.
I mean, I certainly would say that files are going to have to be well past, I think, a terabyte for it to require that. But what kind of files are we looking at? You know, is our, you know, is it going to be instead of us, you know, do we just, instead of operating systems running off of our computer? Is it just being ran off of the internet or?
Yeah. I mean, obviously if we're running an operating system, I think it's something that's going to take, you know, that amount of bandwidth. I mean, I don't really, I don't really know how much bandwidth it's going to take to run an OS. Well, like, if you think of like what they have a virtualization right now, it's a pretty thing client that runs like just the shell to get things running.
And then if you're downloading everything, you can probably have another computer off-site doing all of the work for you. And then you're just downloading like a screen, right? You're just getting updates to a screen. You're not doing any like physical computing power.
You're just sitting there and receiving this information like, hey, draw the screen, hey, draw the screen, hey, draw the screen. That's all you have to, you know, interpret. So theoretically, that can be pretty, pretty low-tech, pretty, pretty space efficient, pretty speed efficient and have like cloud computing, right? Do the rest of the work for you.
Yeah. Yeah, that's, that's interesting. I mean, it seems like files are going to have to get pretty big though. I mean, and I don't exactly know that we know what those files are going to be that are going to be that big.
I mean, there was a time when, I mean, I remember you getting your first digital camera and I think that thing was like 1.5 megapixel or something, you know, we're rather mean something like today, I mean, what a high-end Nikon camera, you know, DSLR or something like that is probably what 80 megapixels or 70 megapixels. Like things like that at that time were just like unfathomable and. Oh, yeah, they would take you like weeks to download back then. Yeah, I mean, it's, it's just a little crazy to even start to think about something like that.
I mean, I can't even imagine. So, I mean, I think it's something that, you know, we're going to have to have files that are huge. And like I said about the living room experience, there may be a day where you're living room, you know, you're so fun, things like interact with you or actually provide a more immersive experience. And that's when I think it's going to kind of get the file sizes and things that are going to get a lot bigger because you're not only downloading video, but you're maybe downloading like light and like, and, you know, extra sound packs and maybe a movement in with that or something like that.
That's stuff. All those extra files are going to require a lot more. So you have to beef up the compression algorithms, right? Like the in-out method, you know, like if you're checking out two guys at the same time, everything.

How much RAM can you actually have? Because I mean, that's going to be a limiting factor is like, how much can I actually have open at one time? Because like in theory, get whatever I need as fast as I want it. If I have like infinite RAM, I can just leave it all open right now.

You're just getting all your information from the cloud. Like you don't need a lot of a lot of local storage or local anything. You know, if you terminal into a computer that application that even just shows you the screen isn't using a ton of memory, isn't using a ton of whatever, it's just, you know. So are you just saying you're going to rely on the fact that you can like basically, like today, we call it swap, you know, you can swap to the disk all the time.
In this case, you're going to be like swapping to the cloud all the time. So you're not really that worried about it. Well, if you got a petabyte per second internet, then yeah, you don't want to worry about it. Fair point.
Fair point. So you're just going to constantly swap to the cloud and the latency will be so quick that you won't ever have a problem. It'll just be screen sharing to your terminal in the cloud. That's it.
Yeah. But then we also have to be looking at what are the file sizes at this point, because that sounds great and convenient if the files that we're, you know, sending to the cloud are the size they are today for a pet a bit per second. But if it's a again, going to that idea that the technology will kind of progress as we need it. So if we get to a petabyte per second internet speeds, that means we're probably doing files that are what a 10 petabytes, 50 petabytes in size.
Well, but the compression will be so much better by then too, that you'll be able to compress that, send it over to the wire and decompress it in an efficient and quick manner. It will be or you're hoping it will be? No. Well, even if you're sharing a screen, like you don't have to send giant files that way because you're just sending them through the wire to another, you know, terminal computer that's probably close by if it's we're talking about this cloud solution.
I mean, you're just sending a screen to this terminal. You don't really need to do anything. Yeah. I mean, it'd be interesting to see where streaming goes as well, because I mean, here we're sitting about talking about this, you know, one pet a bit per second internet connection.
And I get Gerald's point here is like, Hey, these files are going to be giant. But at the same time, you know, if we look at where streaming is today, and you know, you're streaming a 50 petabyte movie via Netflix, but now Netflix also offers like lighting in your subscription. Like, yeah, it's possible that that could just stream correctly, you know, and all that stuff just works. You know, it's it's going to be curious to see if I guess Moore's law or whatever continues to double for like file sizes at the same rate as our connection speeds go up, or if that'll actually trail off at some point.
Yeah. I don't know. This is your dream. So hopefully it comes through someday and then you can download all of the whatever you want to download onto your cloud storage that you have infinite amounts of so you can just be a digital hoarder in the cloud.

You know, and one of the joys I have is watching Hoarders. He gives me a strange illustration from that sad, sick little person. Because you're like, hey, I'm not doing too bad. You know, what does this mean?
Exactly. It's like, this is the, you know, this is the, you know, this is my forget this bad, then I know I'm going downhill. But then you have this strange motivation to clean your entire house after you watch an episode. And that's all for real.
For real, you do. Oh my God. So anyway, you've only asked after like working with me for like an hour tonight, are you going to like clean your hard drive? I'll tell you this is I will probably run like a disc optimization thing and just make sure that my trash is empty and stuff because yeah.
But no, it just makes me sad that you don't watch. You don't watch movies. So you don't get like some of the references that I'm making. Oh, yeah.
And you haven't watched like, it's not just you haven't watched movies. You haven't watched like the classic movies. Like movies that, that have probably influenced movies that you've watched recently, but you just don't realize it or they'll make a reference to something and everyone laughs and you're saying like, why was that so funny? But then everyone else knows what it is, but you don't because you didn't watch the movie that they were talking about.
I don't know. I just get bored easily, like really easily in a movie. What can I say? Are you paying attention to the movie?
Not usually, no, because my mind's thinking about something else. Of course you're bored because you're not even paying attention. You're the worst. I'm glad that we never go to the movies together because like you would probably be the one like asking me questions like halfway through like, Hey, what's that guys talking about?
Oh, just shut the fuck up. Well, no, I won't ask questions in a movie. No, I definitely won't do that. But I'm like the worst, like at home.
Like if I'm at home, I'll just like get up and walk away. Like someone's like, if the family's like, Hey, let's sit down and watch a movie. I'll be the one that's either like on my phone the entire movie or I'll walk away. You're the worst human being alive family time.
Let's watch a family movie together. We can also enjoy this and you're like, I'm gonna watch a little something on my phone or I'm gonna get up and just leave. Yeah, I'm terrible. I'm sorry.

All right, so back to what we were talking about. This episode has gone everywhere. But the direction it was intended to go. Physical attacks, like like terrorism, things like that.
We talked about that a little bit, but obviously there's other types of things that can go on. You know, like viruses and they are like worms. In this case, I think worms is the more important thing because they can like spread. So that could be interesting with a whole cloud.
I mean, if all of a sudden one of the data center she races, that's kind of a problem. Or if one of them, you know, uses an eight character password. Yeah, I mean, maybe the system administrator should use a little bit more than a eight character password. Now, man, they'll have robots being run on that.
She is, you know that the password to the robot is just admin admin. Yeah, they better build them at manual off switch. That's my rule with robots. As long as someone can turn them off, we're good.
You're just like run up to the robot and hit the off switch is I what it is? Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
It has to be physical. It's not like a software switch. Not like, oh, no, they can be programmed. Oh, no, it's disabled the off switch.
No, no, no. It's a hard button that just cuts power. That's what every person every, every movie that's gone wrong with the robots ever built, they never put in a power switch. There was never like a little on off button like on the bottom next to the batteries, where we're like, Oh, no, off.
This is true. Right. And they're like, okay, well, they run solar bars. Okay, cool.
But there's a disconnect, a hard disconnect from the solar energy to the rest of the working parts of the robot. And as long as you tap that little button or flip those which everything turns off a little fail safe. Oh, man, Terminator would never have happened if I was designing robots. Yeah, but see the thing about that, Lou, just like human beings, you know, when they become self aware, they become self aware of their flaws.
So the first thing I would think a self aware robot would do would be like, okay, how can I make it to where this is not easily accessible? They'll put it up in like someplace you don't want to like reach you're like, Oh, no, I don't want to go there. Well, it's kind of like if you were if you were going into a battle, you're like, okay, as a human being, I'm aware that I can die by getting shot in the chest or the head. So what can I do to not get be so vulnerable in my chest and in my head?
I don't know, maybe wear a bulletproof vest. I don't want to helmet. Oh, I don't know, maybe surround yourself in a giant tank. So as long as as that switches there, as long as it's still there, I'm happy.
There's still a way to get to it. I don't care how hard it is, but it doesn't do any good if you can't get to it, though. Well, there's always a way life finds a way. All right, Dr.

Yeah, like we just need to take a week off like you just need to take a vacation and all you're gonna do is like catch up on movies and references like, you know, IMDB has a like top 100 movies of all time. Just go through that list, start, start there with all of those. I think I just, I like the thing is, is like, you could show me these things though.
I would just kind of walk away like, okay, so I get it now, but what, okay, I don't really think I would use them. So they're just lost. They're lost on me. Oh yeah, because your brain is just filled with all of this useful stuff.
No, I think it's just like, I'm just constantly like, not concerned with watching stuff. I think part of it is I haven't actually had cable in like five years. There's no attraction to watch the TV or turn on the TV really. Well, the TV has commercials.
We're not talking about things with commercials. Like even like movies though, like I mean, I've had access to movies and, and I don't watch them. Like, that's the reason I cancel Netflix and don't use it. And like, one month out of the year, I maybe have Netflix to watch whatever I haven't watched in the last year.
And then I cancel which the great part about that is that they always send you those emails and are like, hey, two weeks for free or one month for free. So every once in a while, I just get a month for free and then I'm good. And then they probably hate me because I just cancel again. Yeah, you make me sad.
Yeah, sorry. So super worms will eat all your data if it's stored in the cloud? Oh, that's exciting. I mean, the whole cloud will melt down at one time.
Yeah. Hopefully the government has their cloud towards somewhere else. If the government has it then their track record right now is not the greatest. Yeah, I guess that's true.
Anyway, so does anybody have any final thoughts for this sort of petabyte per second internet connection? No one even excited for it besides me? I think you are. Yeah, mine's an obvious.
My final thoughts is as simple as this. I want to live in a world where nothing ever buffers. I want to, I want the illusion that everything exists on my computer without actually existing on my computer. I wanted to start showing something without me even having to do anything.
I want you to know what I'm going to do and then pre-buffer and do it. Oh, like if you're at work and you're like, you know what? When I go home, I think I want to watch, I don't know, Beauty and the Beast. And it's just already buffered and downloaded and ready waiting for you.
It just knows. Yeah, I just want things to be like, I know what you want to do. And I'm just making it easier to do that. So I mean, the one that I'm ever second, I guess I'm pretty patient right now.
So like waiting a couple seconds or something isn't like the end of the world for me. I mean, it gives me time to think about something else, you know, or like catch up because when things are happening so fast that I don't even have time to process like what's happening or the actions that are going on. I feel like I'm just going to be like, Oh God, I asked this to play already and I'm like, I wasn't ready. I wanted to make my popcorn first.
So I think it'll be, it'll be nice when things are instantaneous. But I'm looking forward to the gradual move up to that to get ready for it rather than just like dreaming and then waking up the next day and having it happen. I just think that would be a rough transition for me. Interesting.
Yeah, that'd be interesting. I don't know that I want things to pre-queue things though because that's just a little odd to me. Well, because you hoard stuff. So it wouldn't be able to store it long enough for you to use it.
I really want to download that one movie. Oh crap, it's already downloaded. And then as soon as you think about something else, like, Oh, okay, well he doesn't need this anymore. Like, no, I wanted to watch that later.
