007 - Musical Seuss Month

March is a month full of fun! Not only is March 2nd the Birthday of the Great Dr. Seuss which inspired the National Education Organizations “Read Across America” Campaign, it’s also the month that we celebrate Music in our Schools. Hence this week’s post title, Musical Seuss Month. What’s your favorite Seuss Book? Mine is “Oh, The Places You’ll Go.” This June 18, dancers, acrobats, musicians, and karate students for my performing arts school, will celebrate Dr. Seuss on the big stage with our 2016 Concert, Seuss on the Loose. Download Episode A little bit of background about Dr. Seuss Did you know that the moniker of “Dr. Seuss” came about as Theodore “Ted” Seuss Giesel was submitting articles to a Mock Zoological association to make himself sound a little more professional? Persistence is the name of the game: After being turned down by 27-28 publishers (dependent upon the sources), Seuss’s first book, “And to Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street” was published in1937 by Vanguard Press. From a man that set out to become an english teacher and was persuaded by his wife and a colleague to pursue a career in drawing came: – 46 Children’s books – 11 TV Specials – 4 feature Films – 1 Broadway musical – 4 Television Series How to create a weekend full of Seuss-iness! 1. Gather Dr. Seuss Books 2. Each family member picks a fav 3. Create costumes, scenery, video, pieces of art work, etc. to create your own stories 4. Share your new stories with one another Maybe you even get a little crazy and invite the neighbors over to enjoy the Seuss-iness! I leave you with one of my favorite Seussisms: “From there to here.
