008: Why Asking For Help Is A Sign of Strength, Not Weakness with Jamie Lassner
from HowieDoinIt — a podcast about resilience · host Howie Kra
For more than two decades, Jamie Lassner was among the cadre of brave men and women that New Yorkers counted on when there's a crisis. As a volunteer emergency medical technician, it wasn't unusual for Jamie to lend a hand in dire situations. When everyone else ran from chaos, Jamie and his team ran toward it. That all changed on 9/11 when he tumbled down a stairwell amid the devastation at the World Trade Center. The fall ultimately led to six surgeries on both of his legs, and a near-crippling case of post traumatic stress disorder. "That's ridiculous," Jamie remembers telling the doctor who told him he had PTSD. "I wasn't crazy.' On today's show, Jamie talks about the day that completely changed his life, and how he finally acknowledged the mental and psychological traumas that threatened to derail his life.
