009. Are You A King Maker?

The general manager of the European football team in the hit TV show "Ted Lasso" may have touched on one of the most important ways in which a mentor should truly conduct himself. When asked by the coach how to properly support a players development, the general manager simply said, "A good manager hopes you will move on. A great manager knows you will." Friends, the deepest of friendships have in common, this one desire, to make the other person royalty. Each works for and rejoices in the others, elevation, and achievements. There are no hooks in such friendships as this. There are no desires to manipulate or control. There is no jealousy or exclusiveness. There is only simply a desire for the best circumstances and events to take place in the other persons life. To love a person means to see him as God intended him to be.
