009 - Boundaries at Home: Establishing Boundaries in Home Creation

from Modern Homemaking I Mindset and Methods for Happier, Healthier Homes

Today, I talk about Boundaries in home creation, which is the seventh lesson in the First Foundation of Home: Mindset & Motivation. In this episode, we look at what boundaries are, why are they so important, why are they so difficult to set and keep, and how we can begin to establish boundaries in our homes and lives. Here’s a recap: Boundaries are so important in our home and life. They really matter. In home creation, boundaries are about being intentional with limits on our space, time, responsibilities and behaviours. Boundaries are actually not about controlling other people, but are about us. It's about caring for our well-being, preserving our energy, and protecting our time. Setting boundaries means that we define what is acceptable, and the limits to what is okay and what is not okay. Lack of Boundaries leads to exhaustion, overwhelm, resentment, lower self-esteem, reduced quality of work, and hurts of overall well-being.  Boundaries can be hard because we fear missing out or disappointing people. Sometimes it is worth missing out on something to protect our time, energy, health, space. And it is okay to disappoint or let down other people if your intention is to protect and take care of yourself. Boundaries can also be hard because it is stressful to say no and because of social conditioning around our value and worth. Even through it feels more stressful in the moment, setting boundaries greatly reduces stress in our lives. And we do not need to take care of others to be valuable in life. By defining our boundaries and limits on space, time, responsibilities, and behaviour, we create homes that care for and respect our personal needs and the needs of others.  We dive into Boundaries further in the First Foundation of Home: Mindset & Motivation, which is within the Holistic Home Method.
