Photographers frequently hire other photographers to work with them, more often as second shooters or assistant photographers but also as 'associate photographers' who represent the main studio as the primary photographer on a gig. In this episode, I talk with my friend, Leighton DaCosta, about why it is important to have a 'master service agreement' that specifically spells out the business relationship you have with your second/associate photographers, delineating everything from payments dependent on the type of work that is going to be done to the code of conduct expected from the subcontracted photographers. He started his photography business 15 years ago while serving in the Navy.
