015: Facing Shame (Psalm 51)
from Choose 2 Think: A Christian Podcast about the Bible, the Brain, and Renewing Your Mind · host Victoria D. Lydon, MA | Author and Certified Christian Life Coach
This episode is dedicated directly to the believer who has received God’s saving grace BUT who still struggles with the baggage and weight of shame. Perhaps you’d call yourself a prodigal where you went off track, God helped you back, but the disgrace and dishonor of your actions still haunt you. Maybe even now you are trapped in the mire of addiction and the boat load of shame that creates a toxic cycle of goof ups. Hearing that word “shame” may conjure up an avalanche of memories, lies you’ve believed or still believe. Maybe you hear the enemy knocking at the door of your mind and heart accusing you for your missteps. Or maybe you’re your own worst enemy, saying things to your soul that do not come from God. Maybe the world, especially other Christians, remind you of your failures. Ouch. This is the voice of shame. And we’re gonna face off with shame all right! Are you ready? In this episode, I’ll tell you a story about my friend Sally. A while back she and I met to catch up at an outdoor café in Lexington. As we were sipping on iced tea she shared with me this huge skeleton in her closet that put a lump in my throat the size of Jumbo the elephant. Man, I watched the tears just roll down her face. Her eyes were racked with such pain and turmoil. And in her voice I heard the hatred that she was feeling for herself. It broke my heart. I'll also share my 4-step process to kick shame out of your closet forever!
