019 - Jen Preisendanz - Overcoming Abuse and Addiction

Jen Elizabeth Preisendanz, 42, grew up in a home of abuse and addiction. Her parents joined a cult when she was three years old and there Jen was sexually abused until she was nine years old. The years of abuse Jen endured lured her into a destructive path that led from alcoholism to IV drug use. Throughout this dark period Jen spent 13 years in and out of homelessness, living in cars and motel rooms, using and chasing drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. She was arrested many times for drug possession, being under the influence, receiving stolen property and violations of probation. In 2010, she was in her state prison cell halfway through her sentence, when she had an epiphany and decided that she was worth more than just existing or getting by the way she was. This was the moment she decided to turn her life around. Jen, now a mother, an author, recovery advocate, and speaker has rebuilt her life and is committed to helping others find a way out of addiction. "I believe in recovery; there is nothing too bad and no one too far gone for healing to reach. You are not alone. There are so many of us out here recovering together. I love you."
