John 7:37-52 Symbolism in John Primary Level- a statement about Jesus (Christology) Secondary Level- a statement about discipleship Christology- “I am the bread of life,” Discipleship- “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again. John 8:12 12 Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” Christology- “I am the light of the world." Discipleship- "Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 7:37-38 37 On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” John 7:37a-38 KJV "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." John 8:39 39 He said this about the Spirit. Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified. Faith/Belief is to trust in a promise that you hope is true. The promise of faith is life. John 7:40-41 40 When some from the crowd heard these words, they said, “This truly is the Prophet.” 41 Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But some said, “Surely the Messiah doesn’t come from Galilee, does he? These verses give us a glimpse of the different levels of belief during the Festival of Booths: • This is the Prophet. • This is the Messiah. • Chief Priests & Pharisees- "Are you fooled?" • Nicodemus
