„In My Time of Dying“ war der letzte Song, den Chris Cornell live gesungen hat. Wenige Stunden später nahm er sich das Leben. Das war heute vor drei Jahren – am 18. Mai 2017. Sein Tod war ein Einschnitt in so viele andere Leben, auch das von Soundgarden-Nerd Marc Mühlenbrock. Songs wie „The Day I Tried to Live“ oder „Fell on Black Days“ waren wunderbar traurige Hymnen der Grunge-Ära, als Seattle den Soundtrack für die Generation X schrieb. Chris Cornell war, neben Kurt Cobain und Eddie Vedder, eine ihrer Stimmen – weltbekannt geworden durch „Black Hole Sun“ und später durch den James-Bond-Song „You Know My Name“. Soundgarden waren genauso nonkonform wie ihre Fans sein wollten, ihr Sound war spacig und vertrackt, zu heavy für Rock, zu experimentell für Metal, deep und depressiv wie das regnerische Seattle. Mit seiner anderen Band Audioslave klang er dann wütend und warm wie das sonnige Kalifornien, ganz nach dem Geschmack und Gemüt von Tilmann Köllner. In Stereo.Typen #022ChrisCornell erinnert sich Marc an die Begegnungen mit Cornell, der uns auch selber aus seinem Leben erzählt.
