023 How do we define success?

from Abundantly Hosted by Emilee Kurt + Liz La Voie

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W4: Chapter 15-19 When it comes to our homes and callings, how do we define success? What would happen if we saw fruitfulness not in "coherent answers" or preferred outcomes, but true and wholehearted obedience? This week we cover such life transition in Elisabeth's life - from single to courtship, from engagement to marriage, from pregnancy to motherhood! The missionary journey takes off with a bang, and we join Elisabeth in the jungle where she is translating the Word of God into the tribal language and supporting Jim. She faces many grueling challenges along the way, and if you are discouraged chapters 15-19 will be a safe place for you to land. Lia and I share the ways that the missionaries' philosophy of ministry is changing the game for us. "Watching" this group of people live their lives as faithfully as they can is changing the way we see God at work in our own stories, the way we manage time, and how we define "success" according to the Kingdom and not the world! We are a family, regardless of where we come from Vision Statement “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” ~ John 10:10 Expository Thoughts on the Gospels - St. John Vol. 2 by J. C. Ryle Loyal Books The fourteen years which have "passed over" me since I first began writing on the Gospels, I humbly hope have not been thrown away. They have been to me years of many trials, and I may add of much work, much reading, much reflection, and not a little prayer. At the end of these fourteen years, I feel more than ever convinced that what are called "Evangelical" views of Christian truth are thoroughly Scriptural views, and will bear the test of any fair investigation. The longer I live the more firmly I am persuaded that no system of divinity is so entirely in harmony with the Bible, as the system which rightly or wrongly is called "Evangelical." I now send forth this volume with an earnest prayer that God may bless it and make it useful. Ignorance of Scripture, I feel more than ever, is the curse of these latter days. Men read many books, and yet neglect "the one Book." If I can help to make the Bible more plain and interesting to any man's soul, I shall be abundantly content. Are you exhausted from juggling your ever-growing list of commitments and to-dos? Do you desire to show up abundantly in all the areas of your life, but are spread too thin, leaving you feeling weary and guilty that you didn’t do enough? If this is you, Friend, then I am so excited to welcome you! I’m Lindsay, a Jesus-loving, anxious-prone wife and Mom to 3. As a working Mom myself, I know firsthand how stressful it can be to have the desire to financially help your family, but also show up as a Mom, fully engaged and present for the people who are most important to you. I was drowning in all the things, overcome with anxiety and blindly believing the enemy’s lies that I wasn’t doing enough. Which only left me spiraling even deeper into a more toxic cycle that felt impossible to escape.
