Phil Johnson is the owner and operator of Got Strength gym in Iowa City, IA as well the strength & conditioning coach for the Got Strength Weightlifting team, a USAW affiliated club team that works in partnership with the Iowa City Parks & Recreation department to offer the sport of Olympic Weightlifting to the local community. In addition, Phil is also an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa in the Health and Human Physiology Department. Coach Johnson has been involved in many different facets of the sports performance profession including the college sector as an Intern coach at the University of Iowa before coaching at both Northern Arizona University and Florida State University. He’s also spent time in the private sector, interning for Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning all while operating his own facility since 2005. Phil Johnson is an avid adventure seeker and extreme sport enthusiast, whose athletic hobbies range from mountain biking to weightlifting to snowboarding. He’s competed for multiple years in both strongman and Olympic weightlifting and continues to train weightlifting and adventure bikes currently.
