023 – SDP – Merry Christmas

from Surviving Divorce Podcast · host GD Lengacher

I am recording this on Christmas Eve 2012.  It's going to be a short episode but I wanted to wish you Merry Christmas. For many of you this Christmas season has not been a merry one. If this is your first holiday season post divorce, just know that it's rough for everybody that goes through it. You are not alone. You may not have the loved ones around you that you would like to have there. If you have kids, they are likely spending time with their other parent that in years past was spent with you. Long standing holiday traditions must be adjusted to fit with parenting schedules or because you always did things with your ex's family. This can be an extremely lonely and depressing time of year. Just keep your chin up. Things will get better eventually. You will one day look back on this time of your life and the pain will be a distant memory.I've said it many times on the show, I am a Christian and for me Christmas is a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We give gifts to express our love for those we care about and this is the time of year when we celebrate the greatest gift of all, the chance at eternal life with God in heaven because he sent his Son to be born in the little town of Bethlehem. Jesus lived the life that we should live but are not capable of living. He died on the cross to show just how much he loved us and to take away the guilt and shame that comes from knowing we don't measure up. Now all he asks is that we accept the gift that he gave his life to give us and that we love him and treat others with love.So if you're feeling down this Christmas just remember what we're celebrating and that "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."  John 3:16-17Merry Christmas
