025 How to Negotiate With People Who Won't Play Fair
from ART of Feminine NEGOTIATION · host Cindy Watson
Have you ever had to negotiate with someone who just won't play fair? In an ideal world, negotiations are always fair. But in real life, things often don't play out the way we want them to. There is always the possibility one party won't play by the rules. Because of that, it's important to be able to identify the tricks unfair negotiators will use to try to 'win'. In this episode, we uncover some of those tricks, as well as ways to counter them and tips to employ. We touch on everything from dealing with bullies, ultimatums and sexists to tactics like delays, rolling concessions and cultural exploitation. While you may enter into a negotiation with someone who doesn't play fair and think that you "just can't win," you have many tools at your disposal to tip the scales in your favor. It's important to note though that the most successful negotiators don't play dirty. Rather, they are attempting to reach an agreement where everyone is mutually satisfied and happy. If you both are coming from this perspective, you are more likely to achieve more successful outcomes and implementation.
