#027 - Control Freak? You may be a people pleaser. Here's how to stop.

from Be a Better Lawyer with Dina Cataldo

If you're anything like me, you're always looking for areas of your life where you can improve. When you're a control freak like us high-achievers, you likely also have people pleasing behaviors. Today I'm breaking down how to know if you're a people pleaser and how to stop. A few years ago, I noticed a lot of people pleasing habits in myself. Not to say they haven't been there my whole life, it's just that I began noticing them.    And once you've created these habits, it starts a whole chain of events that can be difficult to unravel. You may have created whole relationships in which you behave in certain ways, and now your partner or co-workers expect you to behave in that way.    Unraveling these behaviors takes work, and you may think lawyers don't have people pleasing problems because they're tough as nails and don't have feelings. At least that's the stereotype non-lawyers like to talk about around me until they find out I'm a lawyer. Then they always say, "but you don't seem like a lawyer. You're so nice."    (Just wait until you see me in the courtroom, buddy.)    It was actually annoying for me to see these people pleasing behaviors in myself because I thought, "Wow, I'm so accomplished in these areas in my life and yet I was completely oblivious to what was going on in my relationships with partners and family for years."   Here's what's helped me move through these people pleasing behaviors, and they'll help you too. Get info on how to get help from me working through these behaviors as well as a free affirmations PDF in the show notes here: https://www.dinacataldo.com/27   Affirmations (I also call them mantras) help build awareness around what's holding us back and help build the foundation to move us forward. I've created a 45 minute audio to accompany them that you'll also get free at the website.
