027 Gail Hochachka – COVID Meets Climate: Salience and Luminosity

from State of Emergence · host Terry Patten

International development and climate change geographer Gail Hochachka examines similarities and differences between the COVID-19 pandemic and our more existential crisis of climate change. She and Terry discuss how the pandemic might be training institutions, leaders, scientists, and citizens to manage the climate crisis more effectively going forward. They also explore which new stories are needed in order for climate change to resonate across cultures and developmental stages.  Gail has over 20 years of experience bridging research and practice in sustainable development in Africa, Latin America, and North America. She is Co-Founder of the non-profit organization Integral Without Borders Institute and has taught at John F. Kennedy University and the University of Oslo. Currently, Gail is a doctoral fellow at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at the University of Oslo, Norway, where her PhD research focuses on how to integrate the human dimensions of climate change adaptation and transformations to sustainability. Deepening Questions  What does CoVID-19 mean to me? What does climate change mean to me? How do I enact luminosity when I am scared?  How do I enact luminosity when I don't know what's around the corner?
