sermon from 03-20-2022.  Weighing Out the Cons John 18:12-27 John 18:1-14 John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 18:15-27 John 18:25-27 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said to him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Peter denied it again. Immediately a rooster crowed. The Three Questions Peter is Asked: • “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” • “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” • “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” John 13:14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. John 13:34-35 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Peter didn't just deny Christ. He denied his own identity as a disciple. I am the Bread of Life (John 6) John 6:48-51 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” I am the Light of the World (John 8) John 8:12 Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” I am the Gate (John 10) John 10:9-10 I am the gate. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. I am the Good Shepherd (John 10) John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11) John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. I am the Way, Truth, and Life (John 14) John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I am the True Vine (John 15) John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me. Are you one of His disciples? How are you proclaiming, "I am not...?" How are you denying the life that Christ wants to give you?
