031: “Our job is to hold that awkward space for others.” The importance of showing up for ourselves and for each other with Niki and Monica Magtoto

from The Filipino American Woman Project · host TFAW Project

Although sisters Niki and Monica Magtoto lead completely different lives, there's one clear thing that they both value: holding and creating space for people in different capacities. The Magtoto's share a mixed ancestry (from the Philippines, Mexico, Cabo Verde and Ireland) and consider themselves fortunate to have been raised in an open-minded and open-hearted household. They share how they "create space" for others in their respective fields: Niki currently works as an Educational Policy Analyst and Equity Facilitator and Monica works as an artist, brujita, and yoga instructor.Connect with the Magtoto sisters on Instagram: Niki @nikimagtotally & Monica @magtotoartNote: This episode was recorded on September 28, 2019 and may mention data and events that are now outdated.--For our latest updates and FINAL community events, check out our newsletter, published Friday, May 23rd, 2025: https://mailchi.mp/e9ab60aa7aeb/tfaw-project--NEWSLETTER: Receive the latest stories, updates, and media coverage by subscribing to our FREE newsletter: TFAWPROJECT.COMABOUT US: From 2019 to 2024, The Filipino American Woman (TFAW) Project was a podcast that strengthened Filipino voices one conversation at a time through all things life, culture, and personal development.
