032: Giving, your funding model & your board

My guest for this episode is Gayle Gifford. Gayle has spent years in the trenches, organizing for peace, environmental, human and civil rights. She served as Director of Development and Communications at PLAN USA, as Deputy Director/Director of Development and Marketing at Save The Bay, and as Director of Development at CityYear RI before launching her own business in 1996 with master communicator  Jon Howard (who also just happens to be her spouse). Gayle earned the advanced fundraising credential, ACFRE, from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, in 2002. That's a distinction held by only 100 or so fundraisers worldwide. She has an M.S. in organization and management from Antioch University New England and received my undergraduate degree in geography from Clark University. Gayle an adjunct instructor at Brown University and previously taught at Simmons College. She serves as board president at Blackstone Academy Charter School and recently as vice chair of the board at WaterFire Providence. Gayle also serves on the Advisory Council for Latino Dollars for Scholars of Rhode Island and the RI Museum of Science and Art. Gayle has three kids and a cat named Summer. She lives in Providence, RI.  And she like bike rides, spending time on the trails or the beach and long dinners talking life, politics and community with friends and family.
