Yes, I know what you think of me, you never shut up, never shut up, never shut up. Water of life, give me my eternal sleep. Welcome to Never Shut Up, I'm your host Rose Crass. Today is March 27th, 2026, and we are talking about Darkest Hour.

You would be forgiven if you didn't know that lyric. I guess, will you be forgiven for not knowing any of the specific lyrics from the songs, but especially this one, because this comes from the light princess, and you may be, like me, have not listened to this one very often to even be able to pick up one single lyric from it, but that's okay. So this song is really talking about how the truth sets us free, and think about what would unburden your heart and give you wings. Like, what have you been afraid to say?

What have you been holding back? That if you said it, that truth would set you free, that you would be able to soar to new heights, lies, and silence. And silence in the sense of like silencing ourselves, like silent all these years. That girl who wrote silent all these years, and the way that we hold ourselves back, and the way that we wall ourselves off.

When we tell the truth, we are, well, we're unburdened, we're loud. To expand into unburdened moments, into moments of freedom, we can fly. And I know the light princess is floating and flying for another reason, and that's okay. But the whole point here is being able to speak and let yourself go.

And we can force this or we can soften into this. And yoga practice, I think one of the reasons yoga practice can be really difficult for people is that you are suddenly required to be alone with your thoughts, that there's so much that we're doing every day to distract us from things. And when you really get into yoga practice, suddenly you're alone with yourself. And so a reclined heart opener, while challenging, it's also a nice way to start unburdening your heart.

What are the things that you've been carrying around that have weighed heavy on your heart, that you're ready to maybe start letting go? And the beauty of letting go is that you don't actually have to know what it is you are releasing to release it. You can go to talk therapy, yes, and talk therapy is helpful, but at some point you're going to have to release it from your body. So a reclined heart opener, this would be one where you get into it, and then, you know, I don't know, maybe the next thing comes on and it's soothing.

So we can start with just a simple rolled up towel, like a nice big fat cigar. I know that's the wrong song, but whatever. So it's nice and long, and it would be along the length of the spine, and then your butt is going to be flat on the floor, and you're going to lower yourself so that you're on that nice big fat cigar, and it's along the length of your spine, then with your hands, reach back and tuck the end of it under so that your head has a little bit of a lift, so that the chin is lightly tucked. Now with your legs, if you keep your knees bent, your feet slightly wider apart than your hips, your knees will be able to drop into each other, and the arms, you can rest them open at your sides in a T position.

You can rest them on your lower abdomen wherever it feels comfortable. If your roll is too high, you'll get pins and needles in your fingers. That means your nerves are stretching, and so you'll want to soften your arms and bring the arms a little closer. And then simply breathe here.

You could listen to Shash on repeat, like really get into the song and suss it out and take it into your heart and spread it through your being, because well that's a great way to listen to this song. Let me tell ya. Or you could simply breathe here, but this is a great pose, a great practice for unburdening your heart, for setting yourself free, for taking flight. And with that, thank you for joining me and Tori for Little Mental Yoga today.

And remember, five minutes day is so much better than 60 minutes once a week. Bye. That was a production of A Sideways Society. For more information and links to things mentioned on the show, please visit us online at songletoryamis.com.
