038. Small Scale Homesteading Series: Raising Quail

from Homesteading for Beginners · host Mona Weathers

In 2020 when the world was shutting down it was our first year on this homestead in Georgia. I was starting to feel very lonely because all of my homesteading friends were back in California. That's when I found a new startup app called Clubhouse. I was in a new state, a new home, and far away from my homesteading friends. It was a really difficult time for me and then I found the social audio app where there were all these people talking about gardening, raising livestock, fermenting food, and all of the things I loved to talk about. I found my online homesteading community and I still have good relationships with many of the people I met back in 2020. My guest today is Jasmine Bass and we met on Clubhouse. While we have not been as active on Clubhouse anymore, I have fond memories of the rooms we used to host together and all of the conversations we had. This is the first part of a two-part podcast series. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
