04-16-2023 Resurrection Mission (Matthew 28:16-20)

Resurrection Mission Matthew 28:16-20 Genesis 12:1-3 1 The Lord said to Abram: Go from your land,  your relatives,  and your father’s house  to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation,  I will bless you,  I will make your name great,  and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you,  I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt,  and all the peoples on earth  will be blessed through you. Exodus 19:5-6 5 Now if you will carefully listen to me and keep my covenant, you will be my own possession out of all the peoples, although the whole earth is mine, 6 and you will be my kingdom of priests and my holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites.” Isaiah 42:5-9 5 This is what God, the Lord, says—  who created the heavens and stretched them out,  who spread out the earth and what comes from it,  who gives breath to the people on it  and spirit to those who walk on it— 6 “I am the Lord. I have called you  for a righteous purpose,  and I will hold you by your hand.  I will watch over you, and I will appoint you  to be a covenant for the people  and a light to the nations, 7 in order to open blind eyes,  to bring out prisoners from the dungeon,  and those sitting in darkness from the prison house. 8 I am the Lord. That is my name,  and I will not give my glory to another  or my praise to idols. 9 The past events have indeed happened.  Now I declare new events;  I announce them to you before they occur.” Matthew 2:1-3 1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.” 3 When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. There is a deep calling in Scripture that God's calling and blessing are to flow out of His people into "all the people of the earth." Matthew 4:8-10 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.” Matthew 28:16-20 18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Why is it difficult to live out the Great Commission? We must begin by realizing SIN is an actual/real problem. Sin is a problem that required the incarnation, death, and resurrection of the Son of God. The Great Commission reminds us that the presence of the risen Christ is active in the world.
