The use of silver fluorides in dental care to manage dental decay has been used in many countries around the world for over 50 years. The use in Australia began in the 1970s, pioneered by Dr Graham Craig and his colleagues from Sydney University. It was born out of necessity to help provide dental care for children who had high needs and an unparalleled fear of traditional dental care. Dr Craig developed a world-first water-based solution was developed to help with this situation.Cathy and Dr Craig discuss these early days, the reintroduction of silver fluorides into contemporary care and the differences using silver fluorides is having in modern dental settings for consumers of all ages.
