Yes, I know what you think of me, you never shut up, never shut up, never shut up, never shut up. Only when you're whole can you forgive. Welcome to Never Shut Up, I'm your host Rose Grass. Today is April 3rd, 2026, and we are talking about climb.
As Tori says, climb is probably the darkest place. And it certainly is a dark place on Native Invader, and I think it's a really dark place to be. It's, well, climb out of the belly of the beast, and then there's those beautiful little intros, vignettes, whatever we want to call them, improvs about, you know, the climbing. Come on, Tori, you can do it, climb over the wall, and dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum.
And then that encouragement to keep trying to climb, to climb out of the belly of the beast, she said. And then the song invokes St. Veronica, like, one day maybe you will find me. And St.
Veronica, for those of us that don't know, is the patron saint of kindness. She is the epitome of kindness. She steps forward from a line of jeers and sneers to offer Jesus the kindness when he's carrying the cross. And so she represents, well, kindness and action, the ability to step forward and offer other people support in those moments when nobody else will come forward.
She did what she could do if she couldn't carry the cross for him, but she at least took a moment to help him to wipe his face. And so it's indicative of, we can't carry the cross for other people, but we can offer people kindness. We can offer people a smile. We can offer people a gesture of hope, of peace, compassion.
There are lots of practices within yoga that speak to this aspect of kindness, ahimsa being the number one tenant. Ahimsa means nonviolence, and it really is offering a kindness. And then there's this beautiful practice. We find it both in yoga and as well in Buddhist meditation, metta meditation, or karuna meditation.
Karuna means compassion. And this is where we offer people kindness. It's a simple meditation where you start with a focus on yourself and you say the words, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. So we would imagine ourselves, may I be happy, may I be free from suffering.
And then imagine a beloved, someone you love dearly and hold close to you, and offer up to them, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. And then to a friend, someone you care about, not necessarily deep feelings of love, but someone you care about. And as you imagine them, you can say in your mind, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. Then we extend this to an acquaintance, somebody you know, could be a friend of a friend, somebody that you interact with from time to time, and you have positive feelings about them.
And imagine them for a moment, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. And then imagine a neutral person, someone who maybe you know, maybe you've met, maybe it's a friend of a friend. You have no feelings about them one way or the other. They're just purely a kind of neutral individual in your life.
And offer them, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. And then bring your mind to somebody you struggle with a little bit. You don't really like them. They don't cause suffering in your life, but you just kind of don't like them.
Imagine them and offer, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. And now bring to mind somebody who you really don't like, who really causes you a lot of stress and consternation in your life. And offer them, may you be happy, may you be free from suffering. And now zoom out and imagine the whole planet and all beings everywhere.
May you be happy and may you be free from suffering. And then zero back into yourself and say to yourself, may I be happy, may I be free from suffering. And it is as simple as that. Try this on a regular basis.
it's a simple act of kindness we can offer everyone ourselves and anyone and this works especially well if there's an individual that you're struggling with and you can every time you do this bring up that individual and offer them happiness and freedom from suffering it watch it really will change your energy and your interactions with this individual be they a political figure or somebody in your life and with that i thank you for joining me and tori for a little mental yoga our next ears with feedback club is on april 26th that is a sunday it is a non-show day oh my god can you believe it it's almost time for the shows in just another week but you can join us at sunday morning look on the website songsoporiamus.com for the time in your time zone we are reading the book of oh as we manifest the return of glory of the 80s at least read along you can send us your thoughts on the book and we will read them as a part of the book club and then if you're wondering where we get the ideas for like what why did we pick this song for this day well if you don't already have page a day calendar that's okay you can follow along on the website all of this are available songsoporiamus.com you can also follow ifran and david as they discuss the songs short version of the songs every day and i will see you tomorrow thank you bye so so so Thank you.
