041: 5 steps to plan your book projects for the next year

In this episode of Indie Author Weekly, learn how to plan out your book projects for the next year in a simple, straightforward 5-step process.  You might be struggling to figure out how your book projects fit into your plans over the upcoming year, because you don’t see how they can bring in much of an income. But just because your books don’t bring in a huge income now, it doesn’t mean that it’s any reason to give up.  Here are just a few of the incredible benefits of writing and publishing books, which might not seem so tangible at this early stage of the process…  It’s a great practice to improve writing style, character development, storytelling ability, and so on.  It’s a platform to begin being known for a particular genre or for your unique voice as an author.  It can open the doors for potential collaborations and publication opportunities. It begins building your readership base.  It positions you with legitimacy and credibility for your messages and writing.  Now, obviously, having an income is important! Authors work really hard, and they deserve to be compensated fairly. Absolutely. I just want to stress here that sometimes that income aspect of it is part a longer-time plan, and we shouldn’t discount the stage we’re at along the way, if we happen to not be making much income at this point. Sometimes these other benefits lead to bringing in an income further on down the line.  So, when you’re planning out your book projects for the year, having that balance in mind is important. You want to make sure that you are allocating energy to keep at it with writing books, but you also don’t want those book projects to get priority over other things all the time if they aren’t bringing in much of an income, for example. This is particularly true if you’re a solopreneur like me, in which case we need to ensure other aspects of our business are getting the attention they deserve, so we can make a living.  It is a balancing act.   All right.
