TRANSCRIPT · AUTO-GENERATED

Yes, I know what you think of me. You never shut up, never shut up, never shut up, never shut up, never shut up, never shut up. In case we have rolled out our world a little too flat, welcome to Never Shut Up. I'm your host, Rose Crest.

Today is April 15th, 2026, and we're talking about Giant's Rolling Pin. How appropriate of a song for the taxman's favorite day? Is it the taxman's favorite day? Maybe it's their least favorite day because everybody's filing for extensions.

Like, wah. Anyhow, this song, you know, Giant's Rolling Pin is really about things not appearing as they seem. It's about spies. You know, how do we respond to invasions of privacy and against our rights?

Well, in Tori's case, with a slice of pie. But in our case, how do we respond to those things? How do we look at the world around us? Are you a person who takes things at face value?

Or are you a person who looks deeper, who investigates? He says, what's really behind the mask? What's really behind the actions? It's this age-old question.

And what about with ourselves? Do we look deeper than just the surface level? I mean, we all wear a mask to the outside world. Everybody is.

It's just a natural thing to do. It's a layer of protection that we use for ourselves in the world and in encountering other people. There's nothing wrong with wearing a mask. I think the problem comes when we conflate ourselves and our personalities with the mask that we wear, not understanding that there's something bigger, something grander, more beautiful, more loving, more precious, more whole beneath the surface.

And that's what Jaya's rolling pin asks us to do. She asks us to look deeper. Look deeper at the people around you. Yes, that person might be a spy.

Okay. But what about what's underneath that? That's just a role. That's not who a person is.

So the question that comes to mind, and this is a self-inquiry question, this is a self-inquiry practice, something we call svadyaya. Svadyaya is the practice of, well, studying scripture, but also studying yourself. Why do we study scripture? Because scripture is full of stories that help us to connect to our deeper experience of self.

So the question is one that Ramana Maharishi used to ask all of his disciples. It goes way, way, way back as a question, and it is, who are you? Who are you? Who are you?

And at first, we're going to answer with our names. We might answer with our roles. But if you keep asking the question, and I'm asking the question now, who are you? I mean, who are you really?

Not your personality, not your ego, not your roles. Who are you really? Who are you beneath everything? There was once something called the Enlightenment Retreat on the East Coast, which may still be going on, and it was like 72 hours of asking and answering that question.

Who are you? Who are you? And as we start to strip away those layers of ego of, just like Tori did for this tour, she stripped away the layer of ego of needing to present herself as having the three-octave range she once did and focus more on presenting the material and presenting the composer. And when she did that, she opened all of us, not just herself, but all of us, up to this whole new world of the backup singers who are killing it.

So who are you? Release those constrictions. Strip away those layers. Who are you really?

And as you ask that question and answer that question of who are you really, when we get to the core of wholeness, maybe even asking that wholeness, what is your heart's greatest desire, the heart's greatest longing for you? Not a thing, not a person. Could be something like peace, love, connection. And when you find this answer, you can take it and put it into an affirmation, something you can repeat to remind you of the wholeness that you are beneath everything.

And I would encourage you to ask this question as often as you possibly can. Who am I? Who am I really? And with that, I thank you for joining me and Tori for a little mental yoga.

Remember, five minutes a day is so much better than 60 minutes once a week. See you later. Bye. .

. . . .

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you.
