from #liveandcreate Hosted by Miguel Antonio
Emma Jo is a singer-songwriter based in Kansas City, Missouri. Her blend of country, rockabilly, and folk is irresistible to audiences of all ages. You can call it americana or you can call it folkabilly but either way you will be taken in by her powerful lyrics and voice. In this episode, she shares her story of finding the love for performing as a young girl and how that ultimately grew her into the performer she is now. She continues to share the story of losing her father to suicide, how songwriting was part of her process for healing, and how that music went on to bring healing to others. We also dive into the songwriting process, the benefits of working with a talented producer, and how the tortured artist persona is a dangerous stereotype to chase after.
