What this episode covers
The curtain in the tabernacle built by Moses and the temple built by Solomon was the dividing line between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place where God's presence was represented by the mercy seat resting on the ark of the covenant. Only the high priest bearing the blood of a sacrifice was permitted to enter the Most Holy Place, and that only once a year. The curtain separated the holy/sacred from the profane. Until Jesus' death (the force that ripped the curtain from top to bottom), humanity's relationship with God seemed formal, distant and fear inspiring. The curtain had been torn-- and that has all been changed!! Satan's best efforts to destroy Jesus (or at the very least keep him ‘bottled up‘ in heaven) has failed miserably and the torn remnants of that curtain is a triumphant reminder that heaven is in our midst! Scripture references: Matthew 27:50-51, Exodus 19:20-25, Exodus 26:33, Leviticus 16:1-34, Hebrews 9:11-14, 10:8-10, 19-23; Colossians1:21-22, II Corinthians 5:17-19, Gcnesis1:1-31, Acts 10:9-28, Acts 2:17-21, Revelation 21 :3, II Corinthians 6:16 and Ephesians 4:22-24.
