Machine learning is a field of computer science that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn" (i.e., progressively improve performance on a specific task) with data, without being explicitly programmed. Why does Apple, Google and others want to have better machine learning technolgies? We are all giving companies our data to some degree -- but what if the data we provide can turn around and proactively give us things in return?
