052. Ryan Thrower | Art, stories and culture on the trail

from Running long - A trail and ultra running talk · host Vert.run

Ryan Thrower is a professional photographer and film maker, and the creative director and co-founder of Freetrail. Besides being an athlete, I’ve always been interested in the way we communicate our sport, because I think the way our stories are told and shared really influences its development. Stories have the power to inspire people, to give motivation, to share knowledge and information, and I think that as humans our necessity to tell and listen to stories is written in our DNA. In this episode we talk about storytelling related to trail running: connecting the athletes and the audience through the power of stories. We talk about different languages and platforms, we provide some ideas on how to build an effective communication depending on the message and the audience, we discuss how social media have influenced the development of trail running and the public figure of the professional athletes. We also talk about the current state of the sport, which Ryans sees through his peculiar eyes of storyteller and athlete himself, about Freetrail’s mission, vision and projects and about what’s it’s like to work with some of the world’s best races and athletes.
