#053 Numbers 25-26

Day 53 of the podcast, reading Numbers 25-26 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Numbers+25-26/ This is day 53 of our journey. When Balaam the seer saw that he was unable to gain reward by cursing Israel, he instead advised King Balak on how he could cause Israel to curse themselves. Balak sent beautiful women to seduce the men of Israel into worshiping other gods. The ruse worked and God sent swift punishment on the Israelites for their immorality. (Balaam's part in this story is mentioned in Revelation 2.) After the plague was over, God called on Moses to take another census of the people. Through forty years in the wilderness, the population has only dropped by 1820 people. God was continuing to preserve Israel as He had promised. Join me in Numbers 25-26 to see God's jealousy over sin and the faithful preservation of his people. Key verses: Numbers 25:2 These women invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; then the people ate and bowed down to their gods. Revelation 2:14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality. Numbers 26:2 “Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, from twenty years old and upward, by their clans, everyone who can serve in the army of Israel.” All Scriptures are from the NET.
