059: Post-Military Debrief with Mitch

from The Art and War Podcast

In this week’s show, B.R joins the lads for a debrief on some of Mitch’s Army experiences he couldn’t talk about, prior to getting out! Now shielded by his DD214, Mitch gets into everything from his experiences testing out futuristic kit like robot mules for carrying packs and equipment in the field, how an E-5 authorized a 500 pound bomb drop mistakenly and retrospectively considering the lethal force at the hands of 20 year olds on deployment alongside their lack of accountability, Mitch’s changed perspective on why Afghanistan was unwinnable, some of the catalysts behind the military’s now hyper-political, divisive culture and how it has killed their ability to retain service members, some banter about January 6th and discussion about the threat of a very real coup as the military is increasingly lent on as a solution to domestic issues like the 2020 riots. We also get into the fallout of the mandated jab and anti-extremism briefs, why the US military’s budget topping all other countries defense spending isn’t reflected in capability, Mitch get’s real about his line in the sand as an NCO defending his troops from non-sensical directives and saying ’no’ when it matters.
