Acts 2:1-4, 14-18, 21; 2:22-24, 32-33, 36-39, 42-47Point #1 “The Pentecost Event”  Acts 2:1-13The Pentecost event was accompanied by 3 supernatural signs:  sound (blowing of a violent wind), sight (tongues of fire which came to rest on each of them and speech (filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues or languages as the Spirit enabled them).  Languages…     The miracle of Pentecost is 120 ordinary, unschooled men and women declaring the wonders of God in foreign languages they had never learned.  The Gospel being prophesied to the nations.  The crowds were amazed:  “we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues.  What does this mean?” -Acts 2:11b Point #2 The Explanation of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41)-Joel’s OT Prophecy-Luke explains that the extraordinary phenomenon of these Spirit-filled believers declaring God’s wonders in foreign languages is the fulfillment of Joel’s prediction that God would pour out his Spirit on all flesh.In other words, this (what you saw) is that (Joel 2 prophecy 800 BC ).  The Holy Spirit (his Presence & Power in the Body of Christ (aka-the Church).-Peter testified about JESUSJesus’ life, death, resurrection, exaltation and his salvation.  The convicted crowd asked Peter:  “What must we do?”  Peter:  “Repent and be baptized.”Their decision enabled them to receive the 2 free gifts:Forgiveness of their sins  The Gift of the Holy SpiritOT Tabernacle-God’s Power & Presence resided-OT Temple-God’s Presence/Power-Holy of Holies-NT Jesus was FULL of the Spirit (Presence & Power)-Pentecost (in Paul’s words):  “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT.” -1 Corinthians 6:19  *God IN YOU*Point #3  The Effect of Pentecost (Acts 2:42-47)-Learning Church-New Disciples (3,000 new disciples apprenticed to Jesus *3,000 kindergarteners*-Loving Church-Regularly connecting and generously meeting the needs of everyone in need.-Worshipping Church-Gathered together for worship corporately and in their homes (small groups)-Praying Church-Church was birthed in PRAYER.-Gospel Proclaiming Church-It was “Go Time.” “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” -Acts 2:47bThe Church unstoppable-The Gospel is irresistible…to those humble enough to say:  WHAT must I DO?
