060: Looper (2012): An Excellent Adventure

The pleasures of time travel, the crime genre and family drama all converge in this very smartly constructed movie from writer-director, Rian Johnson. The film is visually inventive, too, as it takes us into a world in which looping through time propels the story and provides much to think about, and happily untangle, as the story races forward. Like Johnson’s other movies, there’s a real attempt to take a very particular approach to well-established genres and draw out the human drama wrapped up inside them. If you’ve enjoyed Johnson’s more recent movies (Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the Knives Out series) then Looper is a must-see and a must-discuss.
