078 – Point Scoring Mechanics

from Nerdlab Podcast

Today’s episode is about point-scoring mechanics. I went through different games like Sushi Go, Cat Lady, Point Salad or Go nuts for donuts. What do those games have in common? They all have some form of card distribution mechanic and a final scoring at the end. Since I am working on an insect-themed point-scoring game with my son (as a hobby project, I was interested to see some examples. Reason enough to go through a list of all those cards and match them into different categories. The categories I was able to distinguish were: Static Point Scoring Variable Point Scoring Conditional Point Scoring In this episode, I explain the different scoring mechanics and go over a bunch of examples.
