from The Journey · host Neil Simmons, Broxton Gannon, Chase Faulk, and Lance Griffin
his week on The Journey, we explored the tension between knowing when to speak and when to remain silent as followers of Christ. Drawing on themes from Galatians 6 and Bro. Ray's recent sermon about removing the plank from your own eye before addressing the faults of others, we wrestled with what it means to be salt and light without overstepping the boundaries of our calling. The conversation challenged each of us to examine whether our desire to influence situations around us is rooted in genuine love for people or in a desire to be heard.Takeaways:1. Before speaking into a situation, honest self-examination is essential. As Paul writes in Galatians 6:4-5, each person is called to pay careful attention to their own work and conduct before turning their attention elsewhere. Until we are excelling in what God has placed before us, we may not have earned the right to weigh in on everything around us.2. Apathy and overreach are both dangers to avoid. Staying in your lane is not the same as being indifferent. True faithfulness means being fully present and obedient in the specific responsibilities God has given you, trusting Him to open doors if He wants your voice heard elsewhere.3. Our anxiety often comes not from the work itself, but from distraction. When we allow ourselves to be pulled in too many directions, we lose focus on the mission God has assigned to us. Protecting your time and attention is an act of stewardship, not selfishness. This is a public episode.
