#085: Serving When You’re Tired
from The Journey · host Neil Simmons, Broxton Gannon, Lance Griffin, Chase Faulk, and Auborn L. Shepard
What does it actually mean to serve faithfully when we are running on empty? This conversation digs into the very real tension between being called to minister and simply being human. There are different kinds of tired, and recognizing which one we are experiencing matters more than we might think. There is the physical exhaustion that comes from long days, competing demands, and a schedule that never quite settles. There is the mental weight of carrying other people’s burdens, sitting with them in hard conversations, and making decisions that affect lives. And then there is the quiet, creeping fatigue of routine, where the sacred starts to feel ordinary simply because we have done it so many times. Each of these requires a different kind of response, and learning to name what we are actually experiencing is the first step toward finding genuine rest. The conversation points us toward intentionality as a spiritual discipline, not just a productivity strategy. When we are careless with our time and attention, we do not just fall behind on tasks. We lose presence with the people and moments that matter most. Whether we are in ministry or simply trying to live faithfully in our everyday roles, the invitation is the same: pay attention to what is draining you and be honest about what you actually need.
